Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 "the bolts were loose" Hi! there, Lightspeed, Did you use locknuts on the bolts? Otherwise, use 2 thinner nuts to stop it from shaking loose. Rgds Paul Yong
Lillight Neutral Newbie October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 Can also use a spring washer before the regular nut - keeps up a constant tension to prevent loosening.
Lightspeed Clutched October 8, 2002 Author Share October 8, 2002 Erm... my mechie tightened it for me...dunno what he used though.... Need to jack the car up...thats the problem
Lillight Neutral Newbie October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 If you have a big skateboard and are not too broad, can slide under to check . Anyway, now you know the source so if it happens again you know where to look.
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 "use a spring washer before the regular nut" Hi! there, Lillight, After a while, the spring washer will lose it's tension, with 2 nuts, there's no worry of overtightening. Lightspeed Clutched October 8, 2002 Author Share October 8, 2002 big big problem! (points to tummy) car is lowered somemore.... can't slide under even without the skateboard!
Lillight Neutral Newbie October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 "After a while, the spring washer will lose it's tension" Hey Paul! That's interesting. I never knew it could happen. If the washer is well within it's elastic limits, ought not to occur right? Hee, I've seen kiasu cases with double nuts AND spring washers to secure a long bolt! Only in school projects, granted. Lightspeed Clutched October 8, 2002 Author Share October 8, 2002 so I'm suppose to use locknuts or 2 thinner nuts or both? I'll try to see what my mechie did

Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 "use locknuts or 2 thinner nuts or both?" Hi! there, Lightspeed, It's one or the other, not both. Locknuts are thicker than normal ones. Rgds Paul Yong
Lillight Neutral Newbie October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 Yup, you're right. Not much experience with high stress and exciting dynamic situations like cars though. Learning lots from this forum . But you can guess, it's not my fingers that will get greasy! We'll leave that to Sean, and Matthew when he gets older .
Seansene 1st Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 Gosh, don't talk to me about stress and dynamic situations! I just spent this morning under a bus engine trying to figure out the vibration causes and strain results on a support plate... And after lunch looking at the aircon ducting of the new SBS double decker buses... wish I paid more attention in school btw, I've learnt that it's damn easy to steal an SBS bus - one key fits all! It's keeping it stashed that's the problem
