Astro 1st Gear July 16, 2004 Share July 16, 2004 Pardon my ignorance, I read with interest a posting sometime back about the harm that too regular a polishing can do to your paint work. I was informed that frequent ploishing will only thin out the paint. Is that true ?? Bcyn Neutral Newbie July 17, 2004 Share July 17, 2004 i think u gotta wait for the polishing gurus to answer ur qns. but nevertheless i'll try.... polishing is a very general term. basically polishing means removing a very thin fine mircoscopic layer of the paint and the dirt on the car. u will now have fresh bright paint. polishing removes swirl marks, water marks and stubborn dirt. new step would be waxing the car... now having fresh unprotected paint on e car, u gotta somehow protect it rite? so u wax it! carbuna based wax brings out the shine and deepens the gloss of the paint. some wax will also provide protection against UV. wax will generally fade off after awhile... so for best results, wax every week until u build up about 5 coats of wax. den the relax part comes in. u only gotta maintain it like once a month. polishing with ur hand is better if u intend to DIY. if pro...use orbital polisher i nutting to say.
