Topcat Neutral Newbie October 3, 2002 Share October 3, 2002 Hi What air filter do you have for the 9-5? How much is it going to cost?

Luckcent 4th Gear October 4, 2002 Share October 4, 2002 Eddie, How good is the Saab 9-5 in your opinion.
Saaber Neutral Newbie October 4, 2002 Author Share October 4, 2002 For the price you pay for the Saab 9-5, it offer great value and performance and also space (especially boot space). Let's compare the car to BMW 3 series, Mercede C class, Lexus IS200 and Volvo S60 (all about the same price range). The Saab 9-5 offer greater HP and Torque than those car. Drive it and you will have a grin across your mouth. In term of space, the Saab 9-5 beat them hand down. The space is very close to a BMW 5 series. In term of boot space. The Saab 9-5 is again the clear winner. On top of that the car comes with a host of safety features such as TCS, EBD, four air bags, etc. Being turbocharged, the Saab 9-5 offer great pontential to be modified to be a speed demon but wolf in sheep clothing. Discreet yet powerful. Moreover, being two litre only , the road tax is quite affordable (S$1400+ a year after rebate) and the fuel consumption is quite reasonable. You should get 8-9l/km on average urban driving. Not bad for a 1.5 ton car.
Luckcent 4th Gear October 4, 2002 Share October 4, 2002 Cause why I ask is that ther are a lot of used 9-5's on sale and am wondering what exactly causes its owners to sell. What is the BHP of the vehicle. Is it 185 bhp and how about technical problems. I like the shape but I do not like auto.
Vtim 3rd Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 The first batch of 9-5's are mostly LPT, at 150BHP . Not too sure any 185BHP around . Maybe that's the reason they want to sell as the current offerings are at 185BHP . Unless you're are talking about those early 9-5 owner's that have upgraded their ECU, which will bring it to about 200BHP (if I remember correctly). Luckcent 4th Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 If it is at 150BHP, then a better choice will be the A156 because of the selespeed. Are there any manual Saabs around in SG.
Magfocus 5th Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 But the torque figure is another matter @ 240NM vs the 156 of about 190NM?
Luckcent 4th Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 True but it will loose some due to the auto-box. How about the 0-100 performance comparing both vehicles.
Magfocus 5th Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 0-100 is of course, better for the 156, but overtaking increments might be better for the 150hp 9-
Vtim 3rd Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 No, don't think the dealer bring in the Manual version, it's all Auto
Luckcent 4th Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 What is the Saab's 9-5 consumption.
Vtim 3rd Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 Well, if you upgrade the stock ECU to the after market like Hirsch (with additional performance parts : http://www.hirsch-performance.ch/pdf/9-5%2...%20230%20PS.pdf the 0-100 is better than the 156 Selespeed but when it comes to handling, the 156 is still better
Luckcent 4th Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 Vtim, the AR family is well known for handling especially at corners and Pauly can testify to that. What if stronger suspension changed on the Saab will it be improved. I do not own one but have been thinking especially the car has good looks. Vtim 3rd Gear October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 (edited) You're about AR's handling, I'm a ex-AR owner (2 AR for the past 10 years). Besides suspension changes, the steering feedback on the 9-5 is not as great as compare to the AR. Sorry, not here to start a flame war . You might want to look into replacing the Anti-Roll/Sway Bar on the 9-5 to give you a much sharper handling with considerably less body roll available at: http://www.abbottracing.com/ , under 'tuning', '9-5', 'chassis' section. Mondeo Neutral Newbie October 8, 2002 Share October 8, 2002 Then I still stick back with my Mondy, stock car alredi good and save at least $30K (compare 95, BMW, Benz) for all performance modifications. And the emission still valid till 2005 EU standard. ↡ Advertisement
