you try open up the water coolant and see the water inside whether have a layer of oil on top ornot...and if the temp keeps on going up,thatz mean its gone... god bless you...as it will cost quite alot... [angel]

oh...you mean that when you start engine, there is bubbles coming out from the water?

if yes, better get it fixed soon, the gasket is gone already, better change a new one...don't wait untill the temp to rise...cuz it may hurt the block... [:)]

Visual check is possible if the head gasket combusion leak is already in advance stage of damage. Early stage of combustion leak can only be detected by using a leak-down tester where compressed air is introducted into the cylinder. Air escape is then monitored by observation and listening with a mechanic sethoscope at various locations such as radiator opening, intake manifold, oil dip stick opnening etc.

Hope this helps

And I tot the easiest way is to open your radiator cap...and rev your engine ? If see "fountain" i.e. water shoots up from the hole...head gasket is gone ?

For early stage cylinder head gasket leak - the leak is very very minute and it is very difficult to detect visually via radiator coolant. If the water start to should out, then it is already a gone case.

sorry to dig out the thread...but if after engine on, radiator cap out and coolant boils out after some time...iszit okie?

Gasket problem not necessary mean must leak into radiator. Some case will show oil sipping out around the cylinder head -- so by looking around the cylinder head can tell. Overheating or drop in radiator water level at times is due to leak by radiator.

If the temp gauge indicates normal reading, the coolant should not over flow. The overflow can be due to clogged radiator tubes, lower radiator hose internal layer has collapse or the water pump is not functioning properly.

I jus did my full overhual like 6 mths ago....now i'm having problem water in radiator and reservoir keep drying up...did a simple test myself. Engine on...radiator cap open....bubbles came out...not alot <<<=== is this a case of gasket leak or leak in radiator?

The premature failure of a top ovehaul work can be due to - mehanics may not have use the right method and skill in replacing the head gaskets. Chances he may have use cheap after market head gasket, the cylinder head contact surface is warp/ uneven wear that must be machined flate before setting.Without correctly torquing the cylinder head bolts to the right specifications, the chances of oil and coolant leakage is very likely due to undeven expansion the of head - overtime the head will develop internal cracks.
