Just got my Focus and I'm considering either the W30 or W40 oil... Of course

W30 is for better mileage but I'm worried that it may not offer sufficient

engine protection. Has anyone tried both and would like to share his experience?

Thanks!!!

For a 30wt syn oil. It will offer good protection even though the weight is lower. Make sure you go for a 10W30 but if you want the ultimate protection. Castrol SLXA3

New car....30W should be OK, unless you like to redline her frequently. [;)] Gives a better fuel consumption too. [thumbsup]

Follow the owner's manuel recommendation which is to use W30. I'm also driving Focus and using Royal Purple 10W30. No problem encountered. Join the SG Ford club to get more answers.

If you go to RM for servicing, they will use Shell Helix W40. Heck! they even use the wrong ATF for your auto tranny. What other Focus owners do is to bring in their own W30 oil for servicing.

Actually this applies to all Ford engines as of now. Theoretically any engine using 5W30 as the minimum grade can use 20wt oil.
