Lightspeed Clutched September 29, 2002 Share September 29, 2002 Keep reading from other forums about how cars are fitted with this. What's it for and how much does it cost? Where to fix..etc. Anyone care to tell blur blur me more about it? ↡ Advertisement
Slowpoke 3rd Gear September 30, 2002 Share September 30, 2002 like its name suggest....to catch oil vapours from the engine. Typically the vapours from the engine head will be routed back to your intake pipe to be burned in the engine....your throttle body will get dirty fast and slight (>0.5%) loss of power. So you install the oil catch can to catch all the oil instead of letting it burn in the engine. Unless you always redline your engine everyday or drive a turbocharged monster, if not its not necessary. I know several people who install it just for the poser value. I got mine at $150 from Cartronics (dunno if they still have anymore stock) its very easy to install, I did mine myself

Lightspeed Clutched October 1, 2002 Author Share October 1, 2002 Hmm... Cartronics shifted already rite? you got their new addy??? thanks for the info dude!
Slowpoke 3rd Gear October 1, 2002 Share October 1, 2002 the problem with breather caps is on some high revving engines, there's so much oil vapours comming out that it condenses and drips all over the engine bay. I haven't personally came across such incidents, but someone told me it happens... If you are really bent on not letting the oil vapours go back into the intake, an oil catch tank is better
