Stary Turbocharged June 28, 2004 Share June 28, 2004 Hi guys, I think i might be going for my 5000km servicing one of these days, is it ok not to use their F1 oil and use my own Amsoil own instead?? In the first place, will they allow me to use syn oil in the 5K servicing?? ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear June 28, 2004 Share June 28, 2004 Wah! you very the wealthy! 5k use Amsoil! . No problems, I am using RP 5W20 on my 5k. On the 10k servicing, bring 1qt of the Amsoil. They will change filter and top up with the 1qt. So it won't cost so much to drain everything out and put in 4qt of expensive Amsoil. I got no problems as RP is as cheap as dino oil. Stary Turbocharged June 28, 2004 Author Share June 28, 2004 Genie, RP = Royal Purple? You are saying you gonna mix 1qt of Amsoil with the RP? Is that really ok? I am getting confused with which motor oil should I change for my 5K servicing. Should I also do like you (mine is Optra auto), using RP 5W20 now and then put in just 1qt of Amsoil later? Thanks for any help...
Genie47 1st Gear June 28, 2004 Share June 28, 2004 No what I am saying is that since you want to change to Amsoil for the 5k. At the 10k, no need to buy another 4qts of Amsoil. Just buy 1qt. They just change the filter and top up with the 1qt. The filter if I'm not wrong takes up a fair bit of oil. If change all 4qt at the 10k, you should be driving BMW or MB already! Engine oil treat as mineral water! As for me, RP is as affordable as dino oil so for me to drain all 4qts out and use a new 4qts is no issue to me. Stary Turbocharged June 28, 2004 Author Share June 28, 2004 Oh ok...I saw MCF selling 10W40 Amsoil. Is that a good oil for 5k servicing??? Also, how do you know if the staff there really fill in your oil? they do it in front of you??
Genie47 1st Gear June 28, 2004 Share June 28, 2004 That is why I use RP. After servicing, check dipstick on white tissue. Should be slight purple . Anyway, they put the empty bottles in your car to show that they have used it. Amsoil is very good oil but it is pricey. If you don't intend to use affordable RP, SA will use the dino Mobil Super XHP 20W50 on your Optra. Then at the 10k, you switch over to Amsoil. Amsoil is PAO base stock just like RP. Redline is ester base stock. But the additive package from Amsoil is better. But M1 additive package is the best in the industry according to many. RP on the other hand has a very high total base number (TBN) so the oil resists acidifying for a long time. As long as the wear is acceptable, the oil can use for a long time.
