Silverarrow Neutral Newbie June 14, 2004 Author Share June 14, 2004 Hmmz... I think the BMW 1 series is better... It depends on what an individual seeks from an executive car. Both the new Audi A3 and the BMW 1-Series have their detractors when it comes to opinions about their looks; the former's prominent single-frame grill (which is reminiscent of the large grills from Audi's Auto Union days) will polarize opinions, just like the way the latter's disharmonious front-end treatment and fussy "flame surfacing" on the side tend to turn people off. The BMW 1-Series promises to be a better drive, with its longitudinal engine layout, almost perfect weight distribution and real-wheel-drive. But it sacrifices a lot of interior space to achieve BMW's drivability goal. And you don't really need RWD for driving pleasure, as owners of the Ford Focus and the new VW Golf Mk V can attest to. Since the Audi A3 is yet to be launched, we don't really know for sure whether it delivers a good drive. But it trumps the BMW 1-Series as far as utility and build quality are concerned. Silverarrow Neutral Newbie June 14, 2004 Author Share June 14, 2004 the car is nice in a executive way but somehow it lacks the soul of an AR...but my opinion always bias one Not many cars have the "soul" of an Alfa Romeo. The Italians have achieved quite a feat in blending aural and visual excitement in their cars. But as Autocar UK's writers have attested, AR's build quality is still dubious in passing the test of time.
Silverarrow Neutral Newbie June 14, 2004 Author Share June 14, 2004 That oversized grill is guaranteed to put some people off. But guess what? Others have begun copying Audi's historical Auto Union grill even as we speak.

Slidingturtle Neutral Newbie June 23, 2004 Share June 23, 2004 its a pity that the front grill is distracting many from what is potentially a very looking fine car... must admit when i first saw the pics, the grill DID stand out as odd... however the back of the car looks great though, and overall it looks like a fairly balanced-designed hatch (there are some that IMHO looks out of propotion... but that's ano story...). the light colored interior looks [at least on picture] great too (a good break from the grey-black bunch)... now the remaining qn is, how does it drive, hmmm... ↡ Advertisement
