Aj25 Neutral Newbie March 18, 2005 Share March 18, 2005 actually u mentioned jus now tat we shouldnt pump to super full tank. why is it huh? & my fuel gauge after half tank will start to drop very fast. it seems tat its not so accurate cuz it shows at 1/2tank 300km but the rest of the half tank goes less than 300km. ↡ Advertisement

V200 Neutral Newbie March 18, 2005 Share March 18, 2005 Sorry, but why is it a waste to fill up to the brim? Go JB always like that.
Room430 Neutral Newbie March 18, 2005 Share March 18, 2005 "Just upgraded few weeks back, no more fluctuation problem but full tank at slightly more then 3/4 needle... damn... dunno what the tech doing... " Mine changed already so far so good...... touchwood.....touchwood..... Have been using 95Ron and is ok.
Stary Turbocharged March 21, 2005 Share March 21, 2005 Room430, Dunno why....today I drive 50km already from full tank to half tank. Like that go JB also no use man What did they change for your case? I just afraid that they may make things worse. I just hope that by now, they should have found the problem to this. Room430 Neutral Newbie March 21, 2005 Share March 21, 2005 Did you get you fuel gauge changed by SA recently? Mine was, and they even changed my chip or setting to accept RON95 and above (without my knowledge! ) But so far it's ok, using Ron95 Shell.
Stary Turbocharged March 21, 2005 Share March 21, 2005 no...I haven't go down to change yet. So for yours, if the petrol was filled to the brim, how much mileage can you go when it reaches 3/4? Last time, I used to do 230-250km when the needle pointing 3/4. Now, even 200km already showing 1/4. what is happening man
Sddty Neutral Newbie March 21, 2005 Share March 21, 2005 Better change early. That time I changed 3 days after collecting my car. Complaint to them that I need to go JB, ask them to give me an official letter in case I get caught at S'pore custom for 3/4 tank issue. They bo bian, sent a recovery truck to my house that nite and changed for me.
Room430 Neutral Newbie March 21, 2005 Share March 21, 2005 Actually my fuel gauge problem only started when I switched from 98 to 95 petrol...... when using 98, it never had this problem. Do you know what really triggered your flucuation? Mine's an auto and can normally only achieve around 120km when tank is 3/4 full, and around 360km when 1/4 tank left. Chevyoptrag Neutral Newbie March 22, 2005 Share March 22, 2005 My ride would have the high RPM problem too if I changed the petrol type from say 92 to 95 or from 98 to 92 (quite certainly). However, so long I stick to 98 I would not have any problem. My wild guess is using Ron 98 petrol it may burn better, engine smoother and thus have better and steady & consistent power supply. Gadgets that are very sensitively affected by current supply like ECU and the low power fuel gauge would not be fluctuated erratically. Otherwise, it would be the problems that we are facing now. Room430 Neutral Newbie March 22, 2005 Share March 22, 2005 I never had RPM problems (*touchwood*) and I've never used 92 petrol on my ride. All I did was switched from 98 to 95 and the fuel gauge behaved like it's drunk or something....... can't stay put in one position for long. In my previous ride, I had rougher engine performance when I switched from 98 to 95 (and consumption went up too!), but on the Optra, it gives the same performance, so I see no point in using 98. It's just that the fuel thingy went crazy, so I had SA fixed the problem. So far so good.

Chevyoptrag Neutral Newbie March 22, 2005 Share March 22, 2005 Interestingly after my ride installed with the new RON95 switch, I am experiencing very obvious benifit when using the RON 98 petrol, my previous FC with the stock 92 switch was 11-11.5km/litre when using RON 92 petrol, 9.5 - 10km if on Ron 95 petrol and 10.5 - 11km if using the Ron 98 petrol. Now after installed with the new switch, average FC is still the same if using the Ron 95 petrol but has increased to 12 - 12.7km if using the ron 98 fuel. I am monitoring my FC since I got my ride in Oct last year, as such I notice the obvious difference.
Zirco Neutral Newbie March 22, 2005 Share March 22, 2005 BTW, they changed my fuel pump 2 weeks ago after I reported my 2nd fluctuation. However this did not solve the problem. Anyone else facing the same issue? i am not driving an Optra but had similar problem, the fuel gauge still having problem even after fuel pump changed. Finally solve the problem after changing petrol company, which petrol brand are you using? mine was with Caltex and changed to Shell for few months, since then problem solved, Not sure this would help I was using Caltex when i have this problem too Now with Mobil and ok
Room430 Neutral Newbie March 22, 2005 Share March 22, 2005 Hmmm...... interesting indeed..... maybe I'll try 98 on my next tank and see what happens..... if can get 1-1.5km more per litre, than it's definitely worth it!
Birdieputt Neutral Newbie April 16, 2005 Share April 16, 2005 my optra (a) is already 9 months old (11k+ mileage). now my fuel gauge is fluctuating too. though i cannot really report to you the trip reading as against the fuel guage position because i did not pumped in gas to full level. But to give you an idea, my needle is at 3/4. all of a sudden i will see it at 1/2 the next time i look at it. then a couple of minutes i can see that it goes back to 3/4 position. after reading the posts here, i realized that the fuel gauge/float is somewhat of a problem. I just don't understand the reasons explained here. does the fuel really affect the fuel gauge? Isn't it the fuel gauge is just a float inside the tank? hope you can enlighten me some more especially to those who have resolved their fuel gauge problem. thanks a lot. Silvero Neutral Newbie April 16, 2005 Share April 16, 2005 Hi everyone, I am a new Chevy owner, in fact a new car owner. Just collected an Optra less than a month ago. It has been really exciting and fun to drive. I already went for my first 1k servicing and changed the RON switch to 95. On the same day, I switched from Caltex 95 to Mobil 95. It was then my fuel gauge started fluctuating. It dropped to half tank after 30km, went up to 3/4 tank after another 10km, went down to 1/2 tank again later Seems like there are quite a number of fellow Optra drivers facing the same problem out there. It is a relieve (sort of...) that I am not the only one.
Room430 Neutral Newbie April 17, 2005 Share April 17, 2005 Please monitor your fuel consumption after the switch from RON91 to RON95. Some of us already experienced increased fuel consumption. Also, did the SE informed you they changed it from 91 to 95? They didn't inform me, can you imagine what happens when I go pump 92? ↡ Advertisement
