Silvero Neutral Newbie April 17, 2005 Share April 17, 2005 I have been monitoring my FC since I got my car. It ranges from 8.5km/l to 10.5km/l. Guess my engine is still conditioning. Will monitor further if FC increase with RON95. It was definitely not responsible of SE not informing the changes that they have done. For my case, it was my request to change. Another thing, I asked SE to improve my alignment during servicing but it feels worse now. After reading so many complaints about SE servicing in this forum, I don't have much confidence in SE already. ↡ Advertisement
Room430 Neutral Newbie April 17, 2005 Share April 17, 2005 Wow, 8.5km/l is really bad...... you need to keep pressing SA to fix your high consumption problem. But why did you choose to change to RON95? As for the wheel alignment, they are not good at it..... actually I believe they sub these jobs out to a nearby workshop. I had mine done once by them, gave up after that. After my coming 10k servicing, I'll go to Kenny at Riverview for tyre rotation and alignment job again. Room430 Neutral Newbie April 17, 2005 Share April 17, 2005 Did you switch to using Ron95 petrol? I didn't have this problem till I switched from 98 to 95, then I started having this eratic fuel indicator. I really don't understand how this can affect the fuel guage too. They've solved this eratic fuel indicator problem, but now my fuel consumption has gone up. I'll be making lots of noise in my next servicing, and if your problem persist, I suggest you do too. Birdieputt Neutral Newbie April 18, 2005 Share April 18, 2005 yes i did. used to pump in RON93 and switched to RON95 from Caltex to see if there is really a performance benefit in terms of engine power and reaction. Caltex has released 2 kinds of fuel. Vortex silver (ron93) and Vortex gold(ron95). I'm not quite sure if you have that in your country. unfortunately, our country (PH) do not have fuel with RON98. i think the highest ron97. i guess that's the only thing i did before my fuel gauge reading went erratic. I will try to change to ron93 when my tank is used up already.
Room430 Neutral Newbie April 18, 2005 Share April 18, 2005 Oh, you're from PH? Thought you are from Singapore all the while! And I kept referring to SA..... hope you know I was referring to StarsAuto, the agent for Chevrolet here. Anyway, SA changed my RON switch from RON91 to RON95, and I think it made my fuel consumption worst, and I can't even use RON92 fuel anymore.
Cracker 1st Gear April 18, 2005 Share April 18, 2005 any problem if u use ron 92 ?
Room430 Neutral Newbie April 18, 2005 Share April 18, 2005 Well, it's no problem if you don't mind the engine knocking!
Birdieputt Neutral Newbie April 18, 2005 Share April 18, 2005 (edited) it's ok. i kinda get what you meant. reading the posts here is very informative especially that the optra is new here. i haven't sent my car to the dealer and complain about the fluctuating fuel gauge yet. i'm still observing it. but i have already reset the ECU by removing the battery terminals for about 30 mins. i don't know if doing that is helpful but the fluctuation is not that much anymore. the needle just moves a couple of millimeters up or down but better than what i have experienced last week. anyway, i will still observe my car and will try to switch to RON93. Birdieputt Neutral Newbie April 18, 2005 Share April 18, 2005 with the kind of traffic here in PH, you really can't bring out the car's potential engine power. probably running in RON92-93 will not really harm the engine.
Zacer Clutched April 18, 2005 Share April 18, 2005 think our cars have problem taking ron95. i pump 3 tanks of ron 98 and appears to get to 90%normal reading...
Staff Neutral Newbie April 18, 2005 Share April 18, 2005 i have been pumping shell98 all the while , no problem for the optra5 butjust the FC is high , as for optra , 2 tank liao , so far so gd , i suppose fulltank is 60litre , cos normally i pump only bout 34litre when show 1/4 tank balance

Room430 Neutral Newbie April 19, 2005 Share April 19, 2005 I didn't prove it to myself, and I'm definitely not the kind that "experiments" on such stuff
Cracker 1st Gear April 19, 2005 Share April 19, 2005 cos SA mechanics' view also tend to conflict each other.
Room430 Neutral Newbie April 19, 2005 Share April 19, 2005 The sad truth is..... the mechanics there are trying to learn and find out as much as possible from the car owners themselves....... and this is really scary......
Cracker 1st Gear April 19, 2005 Share April 19, 2005 agreed with ur comment, I am still having the fuel gage issue, will be going to SA to do the 5000 km svc plus settling all the outstanding issues on my ride.
Room430 Neutral Newbie April 19, 2005 Share April 19, 2005 Eh? Didn't they already do something for your fuel guage problem? And what other outstanding issues are you referring to?
Cracker 1st Gear April 19, 2005 Share April 19, 2005 (edited) it was fine until I went for my first top up after collecting my vehicle 2 weeks ago.. I had always used Shell 92; I believed they filled up my car with ron 98, not sure wat brand. I even managed to hit almost 13 km/l with tat particular tankful of petrol !! But after filling up with 92, the needle dropped to 3/4 mark despite travelling 90 km !! and it went down to 1/2 mark when the mileage was only 150 km. I went to fill it up again to see how inaccurate the fuel gage was, this time I use ron 98. The amt I needed to fill before the first click was only abt 11 litres !!...150 km using 11 litres !! But the problem still persist !! [inline "picture 1.jpeg"] This picture was taken when the fuel almost hit "E" (actually the needle was already in the red zone, but the refuel light didnt came on); dist covered = 641, amt of petrol refill ~ 50l, meaning 12.82km/l) [inline "picture 3.jpeg"] This picture was taken over the weekend, needle is at 3/4 mark but distance covered is only 271 km. Seem like Optra doesnt like its owner to keep changing ron level, it "confused" them !! Wunder when will this issue ever be fixed ?? Another issue is high rpm,, if I were to restart the car within one to two hours after I off the engine, the rev will shoot to 2000 rpm with no sign of reducing !!! Previously, I activated the recovery vehicle to solve this issue, this time I want the big guys at SA to see it !! Very sian....only get to enjoy this car for only 2 peaceful weeks even though I had collected the car way back in Jan !!
