New Laser

I just went to see the new Laser during lunchtime.

Walked up to it, peered inside. Opened the door and sat inside. Wow, it's so.... unremarkable.

I know it's brand new and made in the phillipines and all so therefore cheaper... but Ford really should be trying harder.

The exterior was boring. The interior was very plain and looked cheap. At that point I didnt bother to ask for a test drive as I couldnt even imagine driving such a car.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. =)

Just to clarify... 70% of the parts are Japan made, the assembly is in Phillipines.

I'm sure you didn't notice that this is much more high-spec than the old Laser. The basic version now includes foglights, factory 15 inch sports rims, reverse sensors, roller blind and lots of chrome on the vehicle. Even the spare tire is the same rim you see, so no worries about different spare tire. OMV is much higher, close to 15k as compared to the older one which was around 12k.

Maybe it deserves a 2nd look? =)

i suppose alot of the parts are from the 323 or protege ?

my protege has the plastic trimming on the centre console... then one day when i parked beside a ford laser (much earlier model)...

i realised we have the same plastic trimmings...

then i compare my cousin's normal 323 (b4 the protege version one) there is no plastic trimmings...

meaning wat ???

they use parts of laser/323 and inter-change with each other and then tell ppl its a facelift model....

[thumbsdown][whip][furious]

This is the only version. But it's stated as the Ghia version.

Ghia is usually a term to describe higher specs => higher OMV also.

Main thing you'll find is more chrome or wood compared to normal model.

Some customers feel that it is just a facelifted Laser... But it has a different chassis, hence it's a totally new one! By the way, the fact that it doesn't look very different tells you that the previous design wasn't really bad... =)

Different chassis? Can you verify that? I don't see why they would go through all the trouble of engineering a new chassis and keep the body and interior near identical. And compared with the current crop of cars, it's not the chassis that needs replacing, that was one of the better aspects of the car...

I had a good look at it today. It's not on my list anymore. Felt very disappointed as was initially excited after seeing the ads in the paper.

Yes, the length of the new Laser is longer. Its 4490mm compared to the older 4395mm.

The body structure is different, this one is the Triple H design cabin structure.

I'm sorry to hear that... Everyone has different tastes and different wants... Get the Focus perhaps? [laugh]

Anyway, good luck in your search for a new car. [thumbsup]

Wheelbase is the same... Anyway, this body is also heavier and more stable. Glad to be answering questions... =)

I've posted some pics on the other thread i've started... How about seeing the car at the showroom? Websites may be misleading cause they are overseas models.
