Interesting Fact on Fuel Consumption

ABOUT ENGINE LOAD AT LOW RPM. Here's what I know..

Your piston is always moving, thus having some momemtum. When you are at low RPM, the momemtum is low.

When you step on the throttle hard at low rpm, causing the throttle plate to open, letting in more air, and the computer will notice and add more fuel. When the spark plug ignite the air/fuel, causing expansion, the expansion will try to push the piston. However, the piston is moving very slowly, and the explosion will create high pressure zone, harming the seal.

In the case at high rpm, your piston is moving very fast, the ignition will not work as hard to "push" the piston.

Also note that your combustion chamber is the same sized, so the explosion force is limited to the amount of air/fuel in that chamber. Imagine air expanding inside a solid iron container, vs a baloon... The container will feel more "load", where the baloon will expand and feel less "load".

The bottom line is not to try to accelerate harshly or push the engine when at extreme low RPM. When you feel that you can step on the gas, but car does not go, down shift.

I said "ease in on the accelerator" means don't go to 100% throttle suddenly when you are at 1300rpm. Always go progressively, 10%,20%, 30% and so on, so, when you reach 40%, your RPM is already above 2000rpm.

Supersonic
that why some pple are quite lousy in making decision.

say buy car for fuel efficiency but don't drive that often. best is sell the car within 2 yrs......then what for pay for the premium!

conversely, some ppl sell the car coz complain FC high but dun mind incurring real major $$loss becoz of poor resale. take one step front, take 3 steps back.

on top of the fact that it's back to square one after u factor in the price difference, it's onli relevant if u keep a car for 10 yrs and dun give a hoot abt how a car drives. in the end, 'suffer' for nothing....tongue.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

the other way to put it, if you buy a car with high FC, sell it off fast before 10 yrs to reduce "losses" on additional Fuel [laugh]

Simply pump the lowest octane requirement that your car can take

I don't understand why people are wasting their money unnecessarily on 98RON petrol.

If you say 98RON makes your car more powerful, it's purely psychological.

Remember, the price difference between 95 & 98 RON< is 8 cents a litre. A 50l full tank meansa savings of S$4 everytime you top up. Multiply that by 4 times a month, that's S$16. That' a savings of almost S$200 a year, or S$2,000 in ten years.

They have even 87RON in USA.

That's because they got lots of small and big block V8s running low compression. I believe it is around 8.0:1. Find a car with 9.5:1 and you will need at least RON91. Just 1 point compression ratio increase to 10.5:1 and the engine needs RON95 at least.

The gasoline in the US with an octane rating of 87 is considered regular grade while a rating above 90 is premium. However, their ratings are an average of RON and MON so it can't be compared with octane ratings here which are in RON.
