Since the 1.4L A14DMS engine that the new Aveo boasts have the VGIS, below is a link to Autozine's Technical School on VGI. Please note the technology is not new and lots of non-motorheads will think that it is VTEC but it is not. Have a good read.

Read about the SAAB Variable Compression engine. I remembered about it and realized GM owns SAAB as well. The prototype is a 1.4L turbocharged inline-5. Fascinating! Prime candidate. Very exotic!

I want to find out if my varable intake really works during a drive or is it just siiting there doing nothing. Know of any tips?

I have no idea. I have sort of pushed the lower limit of the RPM range to see if the engine chokes and dies. So far, I have gone as low as 1.0k RPM and the car still pulls along happily though slowly.
