Zen Neutral Newbie April 29, 2004 Share April 29, 2004 i understand there's 2 of such product currently in the market. Hayden and Perma Cooler. Which is the better recommended one? And which workshop is best recommended (i.e. meticulous in their work, etc) because I don't want to have my hose cut wrongly ↡ Advertisement
Andrewkb Neutral Newbie April 29, 2004 Share April 29, 2004 (edited) Hi ! Hayden is popular ... and they do have the plate type rather than fin type. The "plate type" cools more in smaller area and less prone to being damaged by pebbles which is a common problem with the "fin type". There is no need to cut the hose. Coz your lower radiator is already a ATF cooler, shared with your main radiator. So just take the return hose from the current ATF cooler and route it to your new ATF cooler and the out of the the new ATF cooler goes back to the gearbox. If hose is long enuff, no cutting is required. Question will be which hose is inlet and which hose is outlet. Hope it helps ! Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 30, 2004 Share April 30, 2004 Hi Jenkins, go with the stack plate type as it's more compact and has less pressure drop across the cooler compared to ole tube and fin as the expense of higher cost. I'm running two stack plate type, one in my Taurus (B&M) and another in my Scooby Outback (Hayden), both seems fine though I don't have a tranny temp gauge to verify. Just for peace of mind my auto trannies are operating cooler

Turbobrick Neutral Newbie May 7, 2004 Share May 7, 2004 Well, sending ATF through a cooler after the built-in radiator cooler will almost certainly lower the ATF temps since ATF temps are typically 180-220F and ambient temps seldom exceed 100F. So by laws of thermodynamics heat transfer is always from a hotter source to a cooler space, i.e. from tranny cooler to ambient. Simply said, run your car with a tranny cooler and touch the cooler after a drive, if the cooler is hot then it's working
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie May 7, 2004 Share May 7, 2004 ATF cooler means cooling of ATF (Hydraulic oil), so in essence there's only ATF cooler since ATF itself is an oil.
Dwoon 1st Gear May 7, 2004 Share May 7, 2004 Errr.... could it be engine oil cooler you're referring to instead?
