Which is better ?

(i) Yokohama V550 (AVS DB)

(ii) Bridgstone GR80

(iii) Michelin Preceda

Low noise and reasonably good wet handling is what I'm looking for ...

Tyres size: 195 X 60 X 15"

For the Preceda, it is made in Thailand and cost around S$115/pc about same price as V550 I think.

Would appreciate feedback from owners of the above tyres. Thanks.

Actually, the Preceda is in the sports performance range whereas the GR80 is the comfort tire range.

As for the AVS DB, I dunno which range it belongs to because the previous generation Aspec DB is more comfort based with not that good wet weather performance.

Am using Preceda now, 225/45/17. It is a relatively quiet performance tyre. Good in the wet. But if you like to do crazy high speed turns in the wet, then maybe not that good coz I can feel the tire slip a bit, but it was really at a higher speed and throttle on even on bends. (Done on empty road so no worries).

Thanks for your feedback on Preceda.

Actually I'm leaning more to either V550 or Preceda. I would have taken the Preceda if it is made in Japan like yours. I have read good reviews and feedback on Preceda on other forums.

Previously, I have had bad experience with Thai made Michelin tyres. So a little concern now.

Anybody has tried V550 ?

Hi there, how much did you pay for the Preceda's? Made in Thaikok ah? I didn't know that... no wonder, it's pretty cheap for Michelins. I'm starting to evaluate tires again... using Azenis now and well... all i can say is that it's not living up to the advertised 'silent performance'. Used Aspec dB previously, didn't complain much about wet cos... i travel not more than 90km/hr on downpours but it was a really silent tires... but the wear rate was quite high... I'm currently using 215/40/17 Falkens... shouldn't be much different in price from yours...

If I am not wrong, there were some batches that were not made in Thailand. The tire guy said that my batch made in Japan. But of course I wouldn't really know and there is no mention on the tire whether it is made in Thailand or not.

But to me, what's wrong with Made in Thailand tires? Their rubber probably more tropicalised for our climate. I believe there must still be a certain standard of QC they have to adhere to if not it would damage Michelin's reputation.

I was on Azenis ST115 before and I believe they were made in Japan? Well, IMHO, the tire sucked in the wet, but the dry was not bad and rather quiet, but after 20K of use, yuck.

I am still going through a tire changing cycle, evaluating tires as I change them.

So far tried,

1. Goodyear Eagle GA (yucks)

2. Dunlop LM701 (good)

3. ContiEcoContact CP (not that good)

4. Azenis ST115 (not my cup of tea)

5. Goodyear F1 GSD3 (very good wet performance and dry good, but very noisy)

6. Michelin Preceda (which amongst the tires, is the best)

But must understand that F1GSD3 and Precedas are performance tires whilst the rest are more comfort-based.

Just my 2 cents.

What about the GR80? Heard really good reviews. Also MXV8. But some people say GR80 better than MXV8 and cheaper also.

Wanna try the TOYO Transas TEO. Got mine two days back (205/65/15), it is really very quiet and the wet weather holding and braking is quite good (it was raining yesterday) and the cornering stability at the expressway exit (roundabout type) is impressive. Think it is value for money. Don't know if the performance will deteriot after the tyre is worn in .. hope not.

The "tyre man" told me that it is one of the better comfort/performance tyre ... don't know to believe him or not but he was also carrying all the other brands like Bridgestone GR80, Yokohama 500, Michelin Energy, etc. As I was recommneded to him by a friend, he advice me to go for the cheaper yet good tyre, the TOYO new tech. tyre and it is made in Japan.

Read about the tyre : http://www.toyo.com.au/NewTEO.html (the only one in English).

Here are some of the 15" Preceda and the country of origin:

195 X 60 X 15 - made in Thailand

205 X 60 X 15 - made in Thailand

195 X 55 X 15 - made in Japan

Looks like nobody has much experience of Yokohama V550 which I was told it is very competent tyres in wet conditions with low noise.
