Kytl68 Neutral Newbie April 25, 2004 Share April 25, 2004 (edited) Like most Japanese and Korean car, my KIA is not that great in sound insulation so the sound from the road to my tyre travels a long way into my car cabin. I am looking for a set of tyre that is good in low noise level but should also perform reasonably in dry and wet weather. I was at the Stamford warehouse sale and they recommend the followings : 1) FALKEN DIGNEO 614 ($125 buy 3 get 1 free 205/65/R15) 2) CONTINENTAL ContiEcoContact CP ($185 buy 4 get 1 free - 205/65/R15) Does anyone know if there are other similar rated tyre ? (like Toyo, Bridgestone, etc. ... or even Kumho) I am only looking for 15" steel whell with 4x114.3 PCD to replace my 14" steel one ... or even cheap 2nd hand 15" sport rim (4x114.3PCD) is fine ... any recommendation ? Phalanx Neutral Newbie April 25, 2004 Share April 25, 2004 When my car was still on stock tires, they were ContiEcoContact CP. Changed them after 3 days. Though rather quiet, the wet weather performance is I think the quiet tires on the market are the Yoko Aspect DB (there's a new version but I dunno how it performs in the wet. The previous version was terrible in the wet) Or try: Bridgestone GR80 Michelin MXV8 Or more performance based. ContiSportContact 2 Michelin Pilot Preceda and Pilot Sports 2 Pirelli P Zero Rosso. Just some I can think of now.

Waipor Neutral Newbie April 25, 2004 Share April 25, 2004 get the gr80's very very quiet. mxv8's are quite on my sister's opel but have heard from someone that they are noisy. as for the more performance orientated ones, i have no comments as i am not interested in them. i like a quiet car lah. Kytl68 Neutral Newbie April 25, 2004 Author Share April 25, 2004 Thanks guys, but looks like the MXV8 has a better rating than Percada. Maybe I should try the MXV8.
E36UDM Neutral Newbie April 25, 2004 Share April 25, 2004 Thanks guys, but looks like the MXV8 has a better rating than Percada. Maybe I should try the MXV8. Not sure about both pricing though
Jetcool 1st Gear April 26, 2004 Share April 26, 2004 Thanks guys, but looks like the MXV8 has a better rating than Percada. Maybe I should try the MXV8. There was a review in Highway magazine come time back which rated the GR80 above the MXV8.
Soya Supersonic April 26, 2004 Share April 26, 2004 better rating for comfort yes but not grip. the MXV8 is a comfort tyre whereas the Preceda is a performance tyre.
Luckcent 4th Gear April 26, 2004 Share April 26, 2004 better rating for comfort yes but not grip. the MXV8 is a comfort tyre whereas the Preceda is a performance tyre. Some performance tyres after some usage becomes hardened and very noisy. No doubt I do not know about Preceda
Soya Supersonic April 26, 2004 Share April 26, 2004 my simple theory is: if it ain't noisy, it ain't a performance tyre.
Phalanx Neutral Newbie April 26, 2004 Share April 26, 2004 hah hah that's quite true. prob why Michelin's new Pilot Sports 2 is trying to tackle this problem.
Ghostrider 3rd Gear April 26, 2004 Share April 26, 2004 It depend on your trashold for noise too....I have used the most quiet tyre (Yoko dBs) and find that their noise level is so so nia....wet weather sucks...but dry progressive is good....can do silly things with the tyres....I "drifted" until it when botak !! (cos dying to find a reason to change rubber !!)

Kytl68 Neutral Newbie April 26, 2004 Author Share April 26, 2004 (edited) Thanks for all the nice contribution and it seems like you are all in a different league in terms of tyre needs. Think I did not make myself clear in the 1st place, I was looking for a comfort and quiet tyre ... not performance tyre. I know that noise and performance comes as a package. I just bought a 2nd hand 15" (ENKEI OEM for MIVEC) and the tyre i chose is TOYO TRANSAS TEO ... I am a poor man and price is a factor here ... cost $110 each as compared to other in the range of $140-190. In any case, I did some checks on the TOYO tyres and found that the performace rating (not sports rating) is good for dry, wet and comfort .. it's some kind of new tyre technology from TOYO ... read it if you like http://www.toyo.com.au/NewTEO.html From the ride home, the tire is really very quiet up to 110km/h (it's still so new). Will try out the road holding and more importantly the braking distance and keep those who are looking for value for money posted ... I hope I made a right choice cause it seems this tyre can last up to 70K .. so I will have to live with it. Edited April 26, 2004 by Kytl68

Ghostrider 3rd Gear April 27, 2004 Share April 27, 2004 Along with it....dunno piss how many pple off liao.... Most dangerous one was at marina south....didn't see the Mazda 323 coming from the rear...when I push my car into a oversteer.....then I was looking at his shocked face thru my windscreen....quickly corrected my lines and wave sorry to him.... The poor chap must have had a heart attack....cos he drop off very far away from me...must be thinking....madman behind the wheels....
