Matthatter Neutral Newbie May 5, 2004 Share May 5, 2004 I think that a truce is in order here. Guess the word "Elitist" triggered some angry demon inside la! Everybody has a special bond with their cars (especially at the King's Ransom prices we have to pay for them). Except for those who don't buy "cars" per se, but buy a transport(point A to B). As long as it suits their travelling needs and financial ability. My point about GM is...no matter how confusing GM has made the global car market, it has struck the right chord with certain Sg consumers, who agree with their marketing/branding philosophy. Present company included. Don't slag it, till you've tried it. The Daewoo brand has gone the way of the DoDo bird in SG. That is once the existing units die out (get scraped). ↡ Advertisement

Seansene 1st Gear May 5, 2004 Share May 5, 2004 And I'll say it again, I've got no problems with the Optra as a car, in fact I'm quite keen to test it one of these days. My grouse is not with all its owners either, everyone has a right to love and pronouce their love to the world. I only came in when a couple of them started printing untruths about the company and car, insisting that it wasn't Korean like it was something to be ashamed of. That's what I found elitist. Daewoo owners can feel just as proud as Chevy owners

Genie47 1st Gear May 6, 2004 Share May 6, 2004 Arah has the dubious honor of having a Daewoo Kalos 1.5L SOHC while there are many Chevy Aveo 1.5L SOHC owners lately.
Arah Neutral Newbie May 7, 2004 Share May 7, 2004 Arah has the dubious honor of having a Daewoo Kalos 1.5L SOHC while there are many Chevy Aveo 1.5L SOHC owners lately. " SA offered me a 3yr free servicing + parts, plus all the premium accesories for a their standard price" It was an offer, i could not resist and of course knowing that it was the last badge of Deawoo 1.5s Sedan b4 the Chevy 's take over. 1.5 SOHCs 'punches' really well also . Actually my SE gave me the Chevy Badges already but have not collected it ....... no intention of rebadging it yet. "Used to own a 'KAWASAKI EN400 fat boy version' only 1 container of them were imported" still now quite a rarity to find on SG roads.
Seansene 1st Gear May 7, 2004 Share May 7, 2004 Uh... so it's the same car save for the badge right? Then big deal lah! I that small piece of plastic makes a difference in people's eyes then educate them...

Seansene 1st Gear May 7, 2004 Share May 7, 2004 Even if you do find them, it's going to go over the heads of 95% of road users. You might as well stick a Sony badge on

Today I read the Feb edition of "Torque" in a saloon which compared Aveo, City, Vios and Liana. Rem the mag wrote DOHC engine for Aveos...
Genie47 1st Gear May 9, 2004 Share May 9, 2004 That is the new 1.4L ETECII DOHC engine. The older Daewoo Kalos which is basically the same chassis uses the 1.5L SOHC version.

Genie47 1st Gear May 9, 2004 Share May 9, 2004 Pretty good. Peppy when I floor it. Overtook a slow SFJ Matrix whose owner whas obviously with the "slow and low RPM" break-in philosophy. Overtook many of the "Singapore Freaking Goondus" that Hitman talks about. Have not bothered with FC yet. Will start the taking notice after the 1k servicing which should be anytime this week. I've hit 500 today. RON92 gas goes on sweet with her. She handles OK. Steering is very precise which is quite unlike the Starlet. A slight twitch and she responds. The tiny 13" Hankook Centums CMI. Eagerly awaiting the 14" wheels and tires. Engine is quiet. I dunno why there are people who complain the engine is rough. They should have drove my 12V carburetted Starlet, screams really loud at 150kmh. In the 'veo, you can only hear the wind noise. But above 5k RPM, it is obvious the engine is really giving is all. At 174, she is stable and there is no vibrations felt on the wheel and the cabin. Today tried it loaded with 4 adults and 1 child. Passengers plus stroller, microwave oven and crockpot behind. Can feel the car being worked. But once she hits 120, there is no stopping her. She is stable as described. With Klasse, she is very liquid blood red. Took me 3hrs, the car is new and not much to clean. BTW, for Klasse users, I find the Blue Coral car shampoo the mildest I have experienced. Not foamy, slight fragrance, not to tough on hands and cleans off easily under with water sprays. ↡ Advertisement
