This is the only Korean car I have owned and it is also the worst car I have ever owned. List of things I have replaced when I have sold it at 2 yrs 9 months 55k km:

1) Drive shafts

2) Engine and gearbox mountings

3) Anti roll bar links

4) Front lower wishbone arm

5) One battery every year

6) Steering tie rod

7) All fan felts cracked

The only comfort is parts are cheap

On the contrary, I changed to a VW after matrix. Never had a problem for over two years. Just pump petrol and change engine oil, not even battery change.

Brake fluid: Shell DOT4 change every 2 years

ATF: Hyundai ATF SP III change every 40,000km

Spark plugs: Hyundai/NGK BKR5ES-11 ($3 a piece) change every 30,000km

Wiper blades: change as needed

Coolant: Toyota Super longlife, change as needed

Battery: Original battery last 2 years, second battery (Hoppecke) last 2 years, third battery (Amaron) last 2 years, fourth/current battery is Hyundai Enercell

Hi,

Some steering coupler has worn out, steering is not accurate and nosiy, has to change the whole coupler plus rod etc

Anyway, to me, radiation change and coupler change is small problem but its the mileage - at less than 60k km only!!!!! And gearbox also has to change at 60k km, cannot lah, too much for me. Gearbox! If its suspension or aircon its fine.

Just my objective comparison vs the nissan and toyota. I change toyota aircon coil at 130k km, first major change. Nissan sunny never change aircon before.

I prefer to sell the matrix at a loss.

Wonder does all korean cars encountered same problems or depends on your luck?! [:/] My friend korean car also have steering problem, but should be when the car is about 5.5 year old.

Looks like the getz owner replace most of the parts only when the mileage reached over 200K?! The parts found in getz really can last so long!

Exactly, non-consumable parts start deteriorating after 200,000km. Quite impressive in my opinion.

Correct, thought usually you will need to change those parts when mileage hits between 90K to 120K? Or when the car is 4.5 years and above.

We have been blessed with new and younger cars in last decade because of declining COE premium. Cars with 200-300k km mileage were pretty common in the past. My friend had a 84 Honda Accord with 330k on 5th year. Didn't really change anything besides routine maintenance. A more recent example is another friend's 2004 Stream 260k km with only oil changes and a battery change in 6 years. Never broken down before.
