ES8 = 1.5L SOHC Vtec, 115BHP & 139N/M

ES5 = 1.6L SOHC Vtec, 110BHP & 152N/M

sorry I forgot which RPM for the above figures but the 1.6L has a higher Torque & at a lower RPM compare to the 1.5L so makes it a better city driving then the 1.5L wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

actually how important is the horsepower when it only comes in at very high rpm?

I am currently driving a Ek3 auto,,,the low end torque is terrible, when my car is at full load,,have to rev to abt 4K in order to get some decent pickup...so isnt it more important to have a good low end torque as compare to a higher horsepower at higher rpm?

low end torque is good for city driving & pick-up whereas high BHP is good for high speed runs, especially in NS H/W.wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

for EK3, the 3rd stage Vtec only cuts in above 4K, that's where the max torque comes in wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

The rest being equal , is it correct to assume that, because of the valve timing and the pots are burning richer mix at higher rpm, a VTEC engine needs more petrol to burn at higher rpm , comparing with an engine without variable valve timing like a VTEC.?

yes, that's true, once the VTEC come in, FC will goes down as the valve are now driven by a more aggressive CAM lobe profile as compare to VVTi engine nod.gifnod.gifnod.gif
