Starlet Neutral Newbie March 3, 2004 Share March 3, 2004 Hi Just to share. To cover up worn out drive shaft , dealer will pump grease into the shaft. This will cover up the knocking sound when turning. Check if there is grease leaking out from the shaft cover.
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie March 3, 2004 Share March 3, 2004 "cover up worn out drive shaft" Hi! there, Starlet, It's the CV-joint (constant velocity) not the shaft that's covered. The CV-joint is replaceable, if there's no damage to the splines of the driveshaft. The dust-boot on the cv-joint is to retain the grease that lubricates the ball bearings in the joint. Noise from the cv-joint happens when the grease has leaked out from the dust-boot, then no more lubrication. The dust-boot is also replaceable if there're no damage to the ball bearings. Ace_t Neutral Newbie March 3, 2004 Share March 3, 2004 any idea how a relatively new CV boot can crack ? got grease all over the rack n pinion and shocks. need to replace it soon.
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie March 3, 2004 Share March 3, 2004 "boot can crack ?" Hi! there, Ace_T, Did you buy an original genuine part or oem one? Original rubber boot will last longer than a replacement one. Rgds Paul Yong ↡ Advertisement
