Engine Oil change interval

Just sharing my thought;

For my Skoda, I would follow the recommended oil & filter change at 15,000 km interval from now on.

If I'm not able to clock that mileage in a year then, I will change the oil and the oil filter once a year.

And my sparkplugs, reckon should last about 20,000 km without problem.

Air filter - only change when its dirty. Should be about 2 years.

Battery shd lasts about 1.5 years (still using the original since day one)

Tyres - replace when worn or after 3 years usage.

Wheel balancing - One and the half yearly or when necessary (steering vibrate)

Hope others can share their views.

> I rather do it at 10K cause of the stop go traffic here in SG

> hhmm.... the original one can last, I am still looking for the original one.

> hehe... I have change to K&N already, so no effect on me. Think you got to change at 20K for paper type.

> Yup, better change it between 1.5 to 2 years before it dies on you.

Tyres - replace when worn or after 3 years usage.

> 2 years for me.

Wheel balancing - One and the half yearly or when necessary (steering vibrate)

> it is done when you do tyre rotation. which is like 4 to 6 months for me

I used to changed oil at shorter interval becos of stop/start driving in the past and realised that actually the oil can last longer then stated. New generation oil tend to be able to last longer thus I have decided to go for additional 5k for city driving style.

Don't think you can find original ones (plugs) locally.

K&N filter need cleaning and takes times, paper replacement fast and quick job.

Tyre rotation recommended at 10K interval. Sometimes it depend on the tyre wear properties, if alignment is poor or road condition bad, wear condition require shorter period to do rotation. If lazy, let the front wear and change the front pair when badly worn. That takes about 2 years, no need to rotate at all.

Battery change = 2 yrs or take 2 more times to start engine [nod]

Spark plugs change = 30k to 40k(Recommended 60k) [nod]

look like your driving pattern, usage, are quite similiar to mine.

Gearbox oil replacement for me shd be abt 40k or when I feel like it.

I was driving in Johore last weekend with some friend and travelling to certain part where the road is sand and gravel and uneven. Then I think of singapore road, aiyah, road here so good and smooth, no need alignment check also can. But driving in bad road condition, then need rotation, balancing and alignment as recommended by manu.

Here, unless you always go over pot holes, not many, or hit kerb, wheel balancing don't go off that easily.

Aiyah, I tell you the wheel alignment is a bitch man. Cannot do one, cause it is fixed, no way to adjust. can only do toe adjustment only. [:(]

When I do tyre rotation, it is being balanced as well. I find this important cause tyre by nature does not have a perfect weight distribution, thus thru wear, the balance will be off. [;)]

wah, look like you really do not use your car much [:p]

for me the frequency of my changing of fluid and servicing will depend on it's cost.

Stuff like coolent flush, air filter, spark plug does not cost a lot so for me I will change when time is up.

Coolent properties will change over time, thus I recommend you to do it at 40K. Coolent cost you just $12.

Air filter and spark plug will affect your fuel usage, thus you might save on this but could be burning more fuel.

As for brake fluid, change it when you change your brake pad and shoes. make more sense and save you some labour cost if you were to do it separately.

As for tyres, I always say. These rubbers are the only thing hold your car (and life) to the road, and I am not fooling around with it. it does hurts the wallet whenever I change tyres, but hey, my life is worth more than that [:p]

toe adjustment only is also wheel alignment. In fact it is the main component in any wheel alignment. Anyway, when we sent the car for wheel alignment, that is they do, adjust toe only

Meow.......................hehe...meow take care the Faby like "Gold" [laugh] [laugh]

40k to change coolent that will take Meow abt 3 yrs [nod] that is right [nod]

As for brake fluid, if change only when pad and shoes change then it will take Meow to change abt 5 yrs or more [:p] (just guess), that not good [thumbsdown]

Don't know about conti car gearbox oil level drop faster than jap. If there is no leak and no oil dripping on the floor, then the oil level shd be the same like any other car.

If you check the oil level at 2 years, might as well changed it at the same time.

The car need to jack up and check from underneath. For me, it is between 2 to 4 years. 4 years being the maximun or limit of the lifespan of the oil.

Saw you "Gold" beauty yesterday at greenridge, still looking very new. [thumbsup]

Talking about Fabia, was driving behind one light blue coloured Fabia from ECP exit Rochor Rd and then turning left towards Suntec City.

Enjoying the look of the car when just before the ERP gantry, the person jammed the brakes, had to swerve left to avoid collision and when I went pass the person, saw that she was using a handphone and obviously forgot to insert the cashcard [rifle]

I think it is better to pay the $10 fine plus admin costs than getting into an accident man...phew. [smash]

ppl are funny, always have the tendency to break the rules like this person you describe. [shakehead] .

What to do , we just have to take defensive driving more seriously, which include to insert the cash card before driving during the active ERP periods.

Luckily, you avoided the rear of the fabia, underneath the bumper, behind the painted plastic bumper is solid steel. Or else can't imagine the look on the front of you car. [laugh]
