But how come the price has increased??? I thought it should be around 80k now?

The SE told me that it's due to the rising Euro.

I feel they've priced themselves out, despite its higher OMV. Pity, as I really like the car. A feature-packed Renault Megane costs about the same. A similar-handling Focus is almost 10K cheap with 5 year warranty!

I'm seriously considering buying second hand octy now...

For the past 2 Saturdays, didn't see any advert from Czech Auto, shows how bad is their marketing when compared to the old JTA.

Anyway, there are some embassy skodas sighted all over Singapore, personally seen a few times in Suntec carpark. Trust that you don't have to wait for the TP to chop their approval stamp before buying the car since the car is already good enough for an embassy.

Hey Woody,

Here's my story. I was looking for a car after driving an Elantra '93 for 2 years. Test drove the Octy and loved it to straight away. Came back, checked all european websites and found no major problems reported. This car handles extremely well on winding roads. Drove to mersing recently and the car didn't slide as much when taking the corners (heard a lot of squealing when i drive the elantra on the same route).

Brought it up to 190 Km/h on 2nd link many times and still am not frigthened by it at all. Did 150 on my '72 celica and tot everything was gonna fall off. Did 160Km/h on my elantra and it was like a rodeo ride with the car bouncing all over the place. The Octy..... the damned steering didn't even vibrate and fight back. Even my mum was oblivious to the speed.

For this kinda handling, you need to spend more than $110K. Just came back from a stint in Shanghai. Everybody drives a VW there and the Passat Taxi's use the same interior as the Octy. The roads are super bad and those cars are as quiet as mine the 1st day i got it. In fact ppl not accustomed to the car actually are suprised by how quiet it is inside. Many mistake the care for a 2lt car.

A number of my colleagues are so excited about my car's build quality and solid feel. But like many s'poreans, are weary of buying one cos of the resale and stuff.

If you are a driver's driver and consider safety as a prime priority, with a budget (i.e. normal 1.6l saloon car range), go get the Octy. If you want something more luxurious, wait till april and get the superb (worth the money, and it's bigger than the passat). If you want a point A to Point B car, get the altis.

I love driving my car every day and love throwing it around corners. Many times i get tailgaters dropping back far behind on cluny road, Chancery lane, Mt pleasnt etc .....

My only gripe... wish i had the 1.8T and Czech Auto didn't price it so high. Cos it really much cheaper car than what it is sold here for (if you travel to europe, you'll see a lot of this car there).

i think we are all in agreement over the build of the car. In my recent trips to India, I saw many Octavia on the roads and I sat in one. For those who have been to India, the harsh road conditions in India present the ultimate tests of a car durability and suspension systems. I think the Skodas are selling so well in India now that they are even setting up an assembly plant in India.

unfortunately it will take time for drivers hear to change their mind abt the car...

Yo Dude,

It's been a while... So you are back in SG for good?

Woody,

Octy is a fantastic car. I have no regrets getting mine last year May-June. It is always exciting every time I turn on the engine... It give you an unique identity.

No regrets!!! [thumbsup]

Hi Woody,

Ya take your time to wait & shop around cos once you sign on the dotted line, the baby is going to be with you for quite awhile (at least for most people).

I have tested both Altis & Octavia, I would go for the Octavia anytime without a doubt. Octavia has that great muscular solid look that you can't find in most Jap cars.

Enjoy your shopping as much of the excitment and joy is the process of selecting and hunting for that right car for yourself.

Test drove the current model Octy before I bought the current car. Nice to drive but put off by the resale and low OMV. Hope the next one has a better OMV...

Tell me about it. But i just did the yong peng to segamat yesterday. Super skiok man. Blast everyone away, as in this stretch it's not speed alone. It's handling and speed and you know our cars can fly once they've got the momentum. Taking corners at 110-120km/h (but you have to watch out for wild animals, motorcycles that cut from the jungle unexpectedly, etc etc). Luckily i had a passenget with local knowledge, like which areas to slow down and stuff. The roads have improved alot with tarmac run-off areas and two lanes along certain areas and most importantly, reflective lane markings.

My 3yr old is still a blast to drive like the day i got it. It's already clocked 120k's. She still rocks at 160-180km/h on the NS hway. Best part is she's the same one that left the manufacturing plant 3.5 yrs ago which only changes in tyres, spark plugs, filters and a single window lifter (stupid $5 piece of plastic).

Might wanna do a mersing trip soon as it's good season to go to the beach at air papan. similar beaches to berjaya tioman, but on the mainland side instead.
