Wrxblue 1st Gear February 22, 2004 Author Share February 22, 2004 ummm.....really got find the experts and look into this matters... strangely I also dont believe that is so much improvement being able to be done by a change of a chip unless it is custom built and adjust for the sole purpose of power gain..probably the ones in the markets just 'shift' the power/torque curves around..and maybe if you are lucky..'smoothen' out some of the flat spots... what do you think?? ↡ Advertisement
Eddieang Neutral Newbie February 22, 2004 Share February 22, 2004 Agreed, I believe most reputable car manufacturer would have probably gone through rigorous internal tuning on their ECU to suit their engine before releasing the car to the market. What can be potentially gained (if any) will probably be minimal. But having said that, there's still ppl out there willing to spend on any possible power enhancement mod to their ride, these are probably people who has already done all the other possible mod to their ride. Eddieang Neutral Newbie February 22, 2004 Share February 22, 2004 An article on ECU upgrade http://www.dansdata.com/hotchips.htm
Eddieang Neutral Newbie February 22, 2004 Share February 22, 2004 Yes, it will not be a good upgrade if the objective is to increase power. However, smoothening the power/torque curve sounds quite possible and will probably be achievable with the ECU. Auto-transmission may have more variable to be tuned compared to MT. eg, on a AT car, adjusting the timing on engine's RPM/speed before the engine shift to next higher gear... Vtim 3rd Gear February 23, 2004 Share February 23, 2004 but most stock cars coming out from factory runs very rich fuel mixture & in turn cause some dip/flat spot on the Torque curve just like mine I would like to have the flat spot iron out I'm thinking of Unichip but the only worries I have is, the skill of the tuner
Saaber Neutral Newbie February 23, 2004 Share February 23, 2004 yalor....the product is only good in the hand of a good tuner....
Throttleb Neutral Newbie February 24, 2004 Share February 24, 2004 Is this a Flash program or replacement chipset If so, generally the agent will be able to detcet it as an error and may sometimes flash a standard OEM program to override it. Ive read it being done to Alfas in UK and the poor dude losing his flashed program. have u tried Superchips? ↡ Advertisement
