Hi all,

A frd told me today that my rear right wheel is wobbling. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong with my wheel? I am travelling at only 20 to 30 km/h at that time. [sweatdrop]

Thanks in advance!

yup. indeed this is my virgin post. tis is my first car n i have really found this site to be very informative n i have learnt a lot from fellow MCFers

well. i have checked the nuts. they r not loose. my tyres r only 9000km, bought last aug. i m not sure of the rims though as the car is a resale car. but my car is only 3 yrs old. so it kinda puzzle me dizzy.gif

i cant really feel any vibration. could it be suspension problem? is the rims damaged or off-centre?? arghh...i m afraid that the wheels may come off as i m driving along the expressway sweatdrop.gif

Maybe come down for meetup and let us have a look? If nuts are not loose then the wheel shouldnt come off, its either the rim hit a kerb and got warp or maybe ur rim cover is warp?

If not pay Kenny of Riverview a visit and tell him ur from MCF.

I suggest you test the following.

Have a tyre shop check the balance of the rim. If its balance and true then check to see if your rims have a precision ring. Some rims (the more expensive ones) have this ring to ensure the rim sits centred.

Also check for irregualrities on your rear hub assembly. Check that the hub bolt is secure and that the hub assembly isn't loose.

If all that proves not to be the fault, then you probably might have a bent hub ot suspension assembly. In this case then I would suspect that the previous owner have a accident involving a side impact to the car probably from a T boner or spun the car.

"i cant really feel any vibration"

Hi! there, AstraSiao,

As mentioned by the rest, send your car for wheel balancing, to check that the wheels are not warped/bent.crazy.gif

Also, check to see that the wheel bearing on the hub is not worn.shocked.gif

Loose wheel nuts won't cause the wheel to wobble, unless all the nuts are not tightened.sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif

Wheel-alignment will definitely show damage to the chassis & suspension system, caused by an accident.bigcry.gifbigcry.gif

2. how do i check the hub assembly, hub bolts and even the wheel bearing? seems very chim to me. do i just remove the wheel n do a visual check?

3. if pt 2 is not so simple, where shd i send my car to check

Firstly how did your friend see your wheel wobble ?

Was he driving behind you , or did he notice it when you drove AWAY from him ?

I have seen "wobbly" wheels that turned out to be wobbly wheel caps .

Since these wheel caps are made of plastic , they might not be precision made and when installed carelessly by could-care-less mechanics they seem to make the whole wheel wobble.

That should be easy to check.

A wheel that is not running true is dangerous and must be corrected immediately.

However you can do a quick and simple test.

Jack up your car as if you are doing a wheel change until the rear right wheel is just off the ground , spin it with your hands and check .

You can also hold a twig or pencil against the tyre as you turn the wheel to check for trueness.

A variation of a couple of mm is generally acceptable , more than that , get to a tyre shop for expert opinion FAST , I mean drive slowly to the shop .

1. wat happens when my rims do not have this precision ring?

Then you need to go source for the ring. You need to go from shop to shop, show them your rim and car model. They'll have to see if they have any spare lying around. Actually the precision will mostly likely not be the source of the problem. But I have come acrosss few rare cases of this.

2. how do i check the hub assembly, hub bolts and even the wheel bearing? seems very chim to me. do i just remove the wheel n do a visual check?

I suggest you get a workshop to check. But firstly have a tyreshop confirm that its not the rim in the first place.

3. if pt 2 is not so simple, where shd i send my car to check

I guess the best place is the local distributor, the other cheaper option is to find out which workshops commonly repair your model.

As others have advised, what kind of wobbling are you referring to when you are driving?

1. Juttering up-and-down

2. Wobbling left-and-right

3. Budging (out-of-round)

It all meant differently.
