Noname Neutral Newbie February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 Help guys, I just got a 96 Civic VTI today. Problem is that there is a smell coming out from the vent if the circulation is switched to external. Smells like thinner or petrol.....What could be the fault. I will be bringing the car to my mech tomorrow just to be safe. And are there shops that sell Honda rims which ppl trade in cos I'm looking for one. Thanks. ↡ Advertisement
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie February 16, 2004 Share February 16, 2004 Could be an exhaust leak at the manifold area.
Noname Neutral Newbie February 17, 2004 Author Share February 17, 2004 If that is the case, would it be expensive to rectify it?
Yeobh 4th Gear February 17, 2004 Share February 17, 2004 Not a major problem. I suspect your car air circulation is open to outside air coming from the engine bay. Look carfully at the air-con panel, there must be a ducting/valve to allow fresh outside air to enter. Just simply turn it off !!
Noname Neutral Newbie February 17, 2004 Author Share February 17, 2004 Kekeke thanks.....I know but even if I open it, I still dun think it should have that smell. In any case will be bringing the car to my mech tomorrow, today very busy with schoolwork
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie February 18, 2004 Share February 18, 2004 Depends, could be just a simple gasket leak, that's not too tough to replace. If it's a manifold crack then have to factor in cost of new manifold.
Noname Neutral Newbie February 18, 2004 Author Share February 18, 2004 Thanks all....in the end there was nothing wrong except for maybe a dirty coil.
Gadgeter 2nd Gear February 18, 2004 Share February 18, 2004 Did you brought your car from a dealer? If yes, you might want to bring it back to them and get them to rectify the problem..
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie February 19, 2004 Share February 19, 2004 Dirty A/C coil? Humm....that should still smell more like mold than petrol

Have you done anything to your fuel line lately or install anything like Boquet etc ?? Changed your fuel filter lately etc.... Sounds like you have a minor leak somewhere. Wash your fuel filter with soap (external) and the hoses...and see if you spot any leaks. ↡ Advertisement
