Dptm Neutral Newbie February 14, 2002 Share February 14, 2002 (edited) any tests that i can do to check if my rims have gone out of shape (can't see it my eyes). reasons i'm asking is because i have been going over small humps and lines of depressions daily on my route to work. furthermore, just now i just went over a depression for drainage that have the drain cover remove! luckily it was at the end of a slope (in a multistorey carpark). heart ache. Turbobrick Neutral Newbie February 14, 2002 Share February 14, 2002 Have to bring to tire shop and ask them to mount the wheel on balancing machine to tell whether the rim is true in roundness. Usually the tire will soak up slow bumps so shouldn't affect the rims
Tantt70 Neutral Newbie February 14, 2002 Share February 14, 2002 Do you mean warping as well? Heard from friend rims will warp, does the rim balancing check detect warping as well? Tks.
Sky8807 1st Gear February 15, 2002 Share February 15, 2002 (edited) Rims coupled with tyres are design to take that kind of shock as stated in your daily encounter. However, should you go through a very hard and solid one, maybe, just maybe, rim may bengkok that is become out of round, If that is the case, and it become beyond acceptable limits, you will know. Your driving will detect something different and u will sense something is not right. Mechanical problems normally will feedback to owner b4 it goes unserviceable. If your drive is ok, then no worry. If you can't see any defect on your rims then should be ok, minor defect (out of round) are corrected by wheel balancing for smooth rotation of wheels. I have encounter a couple of hard and serious lobang with no further corrective action taken b4. No worries man. Spinner Neutral Newbie March 1, 2002 Share March 1, 2002 Theoretically, can a sport rim last 10 years - ie. the life of a Singapore car? Won't it warp after prologed use after say, 6-7 years?
Roadblock Neutral Newbie March 2, 2002 Share March 2, 2002 Hi Spinner, good question. No idea abt what is the answer to your question, but if your rim is a JRD or those Hyundai stock sport rims, better decide abt changing it after a few years. Anyone remember the chap whose Hyundai rims broke apart while driving? And if I dont remember wrongly, its a new car.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 3, 2002 Share April 3, 2002 (edited) Most efficient way of visually checking wheel "roundness" I guess. Edited April 3, 2002 by Turbobrick
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie April 26, 2002 Share April 26, 2002 Usually when they balance the wheel they should be able to tell if the wheel is out of round, can double check with the mech just to be sure. ↡ Advertisement
