Limws1 1st Gear January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 Good article That is why LTA treat headlamp mod as illegal: Extracted from www.onemotoring.com.sg Head lamps (e.g. aftermarket High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamp kits, high wattage bulbs, etc.) Vehicles should only be fitted with factory fitted HID lamps as they are designed to meet internationally recognised standards. Aftermarket HID lamp kits retrofitted into existing headlamps may cause unwanted glare when used. Therefore, installation of these kits are not allowed. Replacement bulbs must be of a design recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Using a higher wattage bulb may increase the risk of fire because of a greater current being drawn to power these lamps. Therefore, these types of bulbs are not allowed. ↡ Advertisement
Yttrium Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 Yeah I guess LTA has valid reasons for some of their policies after all..
Phochem Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 Hi All Im sure most of us change our headlights to the whiter and nicer bulbs for our rides Just wondering which of the above brands are the best in terms of whiteness and durabilty? Forget abt LTA compliant...who cares?? Usually these bulbs have shorter lifespan then norm halogen ones (even though they are still halogens ). Quite waste $$$ to get them. Tried PIAA and thats it, fused out aft mere 6mths usage.
Onyx60 Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Author Share January 29, 2004 yup..nomally they last only abt 6-15mths max...coz of their high power output...so when mine blow..i wld replace it with stock ones again...kinda miss the brightness...
Genie47 1st Gear January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 I'm slapping in a bigger alternator. Confirm brigther yellow lights! Rest of the electricals can get powered as well.
Onyx60 Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Author Share January 29, 2004 like dat of coz diff lah... not many ppl will change alternator unless ur an ICE enthusiast...
Genie47 1st Gear January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 There is no need to be an ICE enthusiast to get a new alternator. Sometimes the stock alternator sort of underpowered. It is safe to get an alternator slightly bigger than the battery's capacity. Afterall, the battery stabilizes the alternator's output mainly. It also helps not just for ICE but other electrically run components in the car like an electric fuel pump or electric water pump. Everything becomes more efficient. Onyx60 Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Author Share January 29, 2004 yeah definitely better i know..but its juz that not many ppl actually bother changing the alternator for their cars here... cheers
Genie47 1st Gear January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 I do. Going to do it. Maybe because the car is old. So a new alternator helps. I can get it cheap. Installation is DIY.
Car_guru Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 Hi... when do you use your fog lights in M'sia? Are they really very useful or only offer slight advantages? Thanks
Exige 1st Gear January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 how much will your alternator cost? My old car's battery power seems real weak now...
Exige 1st Gear January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 Cool! This is a really informative article.. Guess that explains why my dad's "white" light bulbs blew so fast... Didn't know there's actually "white" light, and the real white light.. Hmmm.... so anyone here knows how much will the real white light bulbs cost? I'd like to get them if they're not too costly... would really appreciate brighter lights for improved visibility...
Car_guru Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 Real white lights are those HIDs... cost above $500 for a set. Alternatively, you can buy quality aftermarket bulbs like Philips Vision Plus. Got a longer throw than stock bulbs. Though it's quite yellowish compared white bulbs, it's much more useful when travelling in the dark and in the rain. LTA-approved somemore.

Car_guru Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 What do you mean by 'shines further'? The fog lamp?
S2P2 Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 the distance and area covered by the fog lamp is larger lah
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 Very bad when you go to MY roads as I found even Xenon light on my ex-ride seems to disappear during heavy rain... White light actually scatters and reflect more in rain so a Xenon light is not good in heavy rain and foggy conditions.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 agree with you. if previous owner had not changed it, i will keep it yellow....better on MY roads yah Just change it back lah...... ↡ Advertisement
