Kitaro75 Neutral Newbie August 12, 2002 Share August 12, 2002 Can someone advise me on how to improve pickup from stationary? I dun need high end high speed. Prefers low end high pickup. Driving a HONDA ESI, wif cone filter. How does changing extractor, piping and muffler help? I wan a system without loud noise one. Thanks! ↡ Advertisement
Guyver 1st Gear August 12, 2002 Share August 12, 2002 Think the best is to change your gear ratio to those with low ratio... so u get better pick up... but lower top speed. But i don't know who does that....
Lightspeed Clutched August 12, 2002 Share August 12, 2002 The problem here is your right foot Just "mod" it and floor the accelerator each time the lights turn green.. Pcikup sure to increase... My first car was a 1 litre car and it was always the first move off at the lights... One thing to take not though...better be careful cos sometimes some idiots try to beat the light or even blur blur thought can move off and then BANG... Dont want that to happen rite? (I almost knocked into one clown who thought his lights had turned green...) On a more serious note... try after market ECUs and mapping it, or can adjust your VTEC to kick in earlier (waste more petrol!) via VAFC or other devices ... Happy modding! Madarmour Neutral Newbie August 13, 2002 Share August 13, 2002 (edited) One thing I know is - DO NOT mod the piping as bigger piping will kill the low end. Come to think of it, aftermarket extractors and mufflers are geared towards a higher power output, and not higher low end torque, which stock settings are usually geared on. I think sluggishness off the line is inherent with the VTEC engine where the power comes in at higher rpm when the VTEC kicks in. It's like a pseudo turbo lag! Newkid 2nd Gear August 25, 2002 Share August 25, 2002 If you just want to improve pick up, one of the easiest ways (IMO) is to remove the cat, if you are ok with the environment part. shd be able to feel the diference.
Sky8807 1st Gear August 25, 2002 Share August 25, 2002 Look difficult Your engine is design to shine when the rev are high. If your really want to pick-up, must get used to the engine characterisitics. Changing extractor and piping is not going to make it quieter. ↡ Advertisement
