Madarmour Neutral Newbie August 24, 2002 Share August 24, 2002 Well, it's a difficult question to answer. My criteria is a nice balance between handling, power and torque. I know that's very, very general but that's all I can put it so it's an open answer.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie August 24, 2002 Share August 24, 2002 You put it much better than I do!
Madarmour Neutral Newbie August 24, 2002 Share August 24, 2002 That's why I think some luxo-barges and MPV's here are grossly underpowered, partly due to the tax structure here. Overtaking with confidence is important to me.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie August 24, 2002 Share August 24, 2002 (edited) My longest drive in OZ was from Sydney to Melbourne but I did it in 2 days with a stop at a border town (can't really remember it's name). As I was a tourist, I thought it was fun and I had a lot of side trips to those towns with so called attractions just off the highway. And yeah, I did the Great Ocean Road at that time too. What a wonderful drive and scenery! However, my ride was an automatic 4.0L Frod Falcon, and my little daughter had a bad case of car-sickness. My wife didn't feel too well too as both of them were sitting behind! Edited August 24, 2002 by Mikeckchong
Super7 Turbocharged August 24, 2002 Share August 24, 2002 (edited) I drove from Sydney to Melbourne way back as a uni student with fellow poor students: 5 guys in a rented Ford Cortina Mk4 (great grand father of Mondeo/Sierra ) with a 4L engine (yes, it was that long ago ), how long we took? i think about little below 10 hours non stop, by the time we reached Melbourne at 4am, we were dead tired, parked in a empty supermarket open carpark and ZZZZzzzzz in the car for the next 6 hours , until the security guards thought we were dead inside the car ......... I even drove my 12 year old bomb (bought for about S$2500, working condition!) from Sydney to Brisbane, adding engine oil every 2 hours and ran off many country town home made wooden road signs at every fast bend when my stupid old Holden understeered and went wide ..... those old and slow revving 6 inline 3L iron blocks had good low end torque and were long lasting but drank oil like drinking beer so much for old man's stories Edited August 24, 2002 by Ysfoo ↡ Advertisement
