Please help me guys. I will be going to a mecanic soon but i hope the understand the problem more first before going.

I have a 20 year old manual car.

It starts in the morning rather fine. It is recently that after travelling for awhile, when i slow down at a red light or if im searching for parking lot in a carpark, my engine just dies suddenly.

Even when i restart the engine...it seems like it is strugling and if i dont rev my engine...it has a 50-50 chance of dying again.

Also..there is a meter in my car. It looks like a tap with a drop of water spilling.

the extreme left of the meter has a "C" and the extreme right has a "H". Normally its at C but when this problem occurs, the needle will go all the way to "H".

Please give me advice or ask me questions if you need more information.

The meter is for the temperature of the Car engine. C for Cold and H for Hot. Have you check ur radiator water level. I suspect that there is no more water or coolent. Your car will stall when ur engine is overheated. That should be why u have no problem starting in the morning. Continue driving without topping up the water will cause engine danmages.

Likely the choke (if carb) or idle control valve (EFI) kaput.

Your meter is showing overheating as well, check the thermostat, water pump and engine belt to make sure they're working and the belt doesn't slip.

"a 20 year old manual car"

Hi! there, JiaYong,

What car would that be??

Since you've sent it back to the previous owner's w/shop, he should rectify the problem. As mentioned by the rest, it's overheating.

Something else to check, radiator cap is holding the rated pressure, radiator's cooling coils are not stuck.

"it was mentioned opsmewhere above"

Hi! there, JiaYong,

The alternator's driven by the belts in front of your engine, it's for charging your battery, you should have at least 2 belts. For the alternator & air-conditioner. Alternator has a small pulley, a/c has a bigger pulley, both belts are connected to the main pulley of the engine.

"Tofu" car is very much sought after, as it's a high performance car, with very good handling. Look up the web-sites on how to take care of the maintenance of your car, and you'll have many years of driving pleasure.

Radiator coils & cap pressure should be checked by a radiator repair shop. They'll pressure test it to check for leaks & flow volume of your cooling system.

I'm not sure if you're using a single or twin carburettor set-up, if it's a twin, both sets of carbs must be balanced, i.e. has the same flow rate in air & fuel volume. An unbalanced twin-carbs will lead to over-heating too.

whats surprising is that im not using carburettor...it uses fuel injection. fuel injection for a 1983 car?

actually i was searching thru this forum...and i saw my car here. Its in the background of a picture under General-> Car showroom. the black and white tofu car in the background of a silver car.

I will check the alternator tom morning. As for the radiator...i will leave it to the mechanic then. Thank you so much for your help. =)

"fuel injection for a 1983 car?"

Hi! there, JiaYong,

Fuel injection was developed in the late 1950s. As for my car, the suspension system is from the 1890s.

Since your's a FI model, it's probably your cooling system is not efficient.
