G7 Fuel Consumption

Share with u guys on some research and DIY stuffs I done on my G7.

I think I managed to squeeze out the best fuel consumption out from my two G7.

They are now : (60% town, 40% highway average)

EE101 auto - 12.3km/L (3 tanks average)

AE101 auto - 12.5km/L (4 tanks average)

What I did

1. Both 4A/4E engines recommend 95 Octane minimum on original preset ignition timing, I choose 92 Octane.

2. Following adjustments to use 88 Octane as instructed by Toyota manual, I retard timing back to 08 degrees as stated (ie. ECU will take 8deg-/+2deg)

3. No knocking, even at full throttle, high speed above 140km/h or town speed around 60km/h crusing, very smooth idling

4. Max speed can still be reach without any problem, slightly slower ofcoz

5. O2 sensor readout are within specs, operating temp is slightly lower but within specs too.

Results:

Performance slightly lower (dun really notice unless u really floor ur accelerator all the time), but 1KM extra every Litre of petrol on my EE101 and 0.8KM extra on my AE101. Average about 490km before low fuel lamp starts coming on and off which indicates another easily 120km left. I am going to stick to current settings till later. :)

Manual transmission should be able to clock even better fuel consumption.

BTW : I dun have SAFC

Main thing about timing retards and low octane fuel is the acceleration. If accel is smooth and no hesitation, then you setting should be okay.
