Ilmw 1st Gear July 28, 2002 Share July 28, 2002 (edited) While still awaiting a Japanese copy of the electrical diagram, I've "decoded" / reverse-engineered the door mirror operation of the VRG, @ here. Why would I do this you ask? I'm planning to automate this! Some ideas so far: 1. On engine shutdown, fold mirrors 2. On engine startup, unfold mirrors 3. On reverse gear, tilt mirrors down (to watch rear curb) 4. On button press, move mirrors to preset position ("normal") 5. On button press, move mirrors to preset position ("outer" - on slip road to join highway) Edited July 28, 2002 by Ilmw ↡ Advertisement
Lester Neutral Newbie July 28, 2002 Share July 28, 2002 Hi Ilmw I'm ver much interested in your innovation. I'm looking at auto folding of mirrors when engine shut off. Pls let all know of your findings and results in the near future. I believe many will be appreciative for your effort. thanks. Lester
Ilmw 1st Gear July 28, 2002 Author Share July 28, 2002 Cool! Yes I will post when I will have more .. stay tuned! To do, eg, auto mirror fold when shutdown, other subsystems need to come into play. To detect shutdown, either ignition or RPM need to be involved. To tilt mirror on reverse, AT need to be tapped. Once the necessary subsystems are marshalled, we need to build a PIC microcontroller .. Help is definitely needed .. perhaps we can collaborate? I'm schooled in EEE and can differentiate a resistor from a capacitor, but electronics is only a hobby now .. Oh yes, note my OBD-II thread in JapTalk .. this area is as interesting as any other electronics toy ..
Lester Neutral Newbie July 28, 2002 Share July 28, 2002 Hi Ilmw I can help to differentiate an alkane from an alkene. I'm not so EEE sound. I was from CPT. Anyway, lemme know wat area I can help you with. Lester
Ilmw 1st Gear July 28, 2002 Author Share July 28, 2002 CPT? Captain? Chemical something? The way I see how this can proceed is this: 1. Need to understand the subsystems involved. While we all would have similar things, exactly how they are implemented will be different from your car to my car. How can we do this for your Santa Fe? 2. Need to implemement microcomputer to control the subsystem. This uP can be generic enough (with minor teaks) to work for most cars.
Guyver 1st Gear July 30, 2002 Share July 30, 2002 Can add another simple thing? Cut off all power to the headlights when engine is off? My car already has it... but i understand that alot out there still don't have....
Mondeo Neutral Newbie July 30, 2002 Share July 30, 2002 There's not a need to implement the cut off headligjt when off engine, think on a dark weather or heavy rain when u position yr car and off-engine, at the same time there's car drive in behind and he can't see yr car positioned there becoz yr car headlight is off, sometime accident will be happened. Magfocus 5th Gear July 30, 2002 Share July 30, 2002 I thought Fords have this feature that keeps the low beam on to be visible to road users at dark places. I believe i saw VWs with this as well. Does the Mondy have it?
Mondeo Neutral Newbie July 30, 2002 Share July 30, 2002 Guvyer said that want cut off all power of healights!!
Magfocus 5th Gear July 30, 2002 Share July 30, 2002 Maybe in Sillypore but in other countries where its dark, its desirable to keep some lights on, to aid visibility.
Guyver 1st Gear July 30, 2002 Share July 30, 2002 What i mean is to prevent the driver from leaving the headlights on and end up with a dead battery... what u guys mean?
Magfocus 5th Gear July 30, 2002 Share July 30, 2002 What i mean is that some Euro cars have a switch to keep a low beam on when you leave the car in dark places. Its not supposed to drain your battery or rather, use very little current. Just to ensure motorists see your car in really dark places
