Commit with DMX first. I can recommend my mech. His workshop is a certified Mobil Service Centre. So he got loads of Mobil oils. DMX is one of them. If you prefer to use CRS, no problem. Ravinged 5th Gear December 11, 2003 Share December 11, 2003 I think I changed my mind ... probably will use Castrol RS to cleanse the engine before I get the guys to input in Castrol SLX for protection. I was down in Stamford Tyres workshop today to browse through their showroom in Sembawang, mostly rims and tyres. Not much other accessories. But the place is big and clean. The ones that makes CarPlan detailing products. As long as engine don't grind to pieces can already. But dunno if it is like RP. I'll see what information I can get from the fuel consumption, engine noise and smoothness. If it is not satisfactory after the 5k mileage, then maybe I will try out DMX to see the difference. Genie47 1st Gear December 12, 2003 Share December 12, 2003 According to the resident oil guru at Toyota Owners Forum, Ken4Camry, he says that RP flashpoint is a dead giveaway that it is a syn oil. But for some strange reason, doesn't behave like a good syn oil. RP 10W30 shears to smithereens to become 10W20 in 5k. Lots of users in BITOG very angry. But got people use the RP 10W30 on cars with very structurally strong engines got no problem. The is this guy in BITOG report with UOA for RP 10W30 on his WRX. Wear nos. for iron and all the metals you find in an engine very low. Those use in Toyota must change every 5k or engine will grind to pieces. Very bad wear nos. Anyway, the oil is cheap. Much like Castrol Syntec which uses a highly refined mineral base. I don't regard these oils as full Syn. Genie47 1st Gear December 14, 2003 Share December 14, 2003 Holy moly! I've hit 4.3k in 1.5mths! I've just got another oil change to DMX. The old oil coming out is blacker than when I changed it from the old oil which is most likely an Elf 50wt oil. I've been monitoring it from the dipstick. Initially the oil was pretty clear even up to 3 weeks, then this week...BOOM! Turned very dark. So now I have 4L of DMX 'cus I used 2L from the leftover from the last change and 1L from this new bottle. Will use the remaining amount for the next oil change. Could be just a month away! Genie47 1st Gear December 14, 2003 Share December 14, 2003 Correction. RP is Group IV PAO synthetic with Group I/II carrier. New engines seem to benefit from RP as they are still structurally strong. Ken at the TCS @ Delphiforums has commented that it has should be OK if you don't exceed 10k/6mths. Dealer has not overpriced the oil locally.
