Going for servicing soon.Thought of getting AMSOIL 5W30

I need 4 bottles, each is 0.94litres. One is $17.

A dozen is $180 or $15 per bottle.

Any one interested?

Just need 3 cars or so to share the savings. Or maybe anyone can sell me 4 bottles out of your dozen?

Thanks

Check out Mobil Delvac 1. [sly]

$85 for 5.0L of 5W40 @ Torino next to AMK Ave 1 Caltex. Lubrication enthusiasts say it is Mobil's best oil. Better than Mobil 1.

Very high detergent/dispersant package because it is a diesel engine oil. Very expensive for a diesel engine oil because it is synthetic. Don't let it scare you away, it is API SL and SJ so can use in petrol engines.

Amsoil has many good esters and PAO in it which they use to clean the engine. Delvac 1 is basically Mobil 1's esters and PAO loaded with detergents and dispersants. It being a 40wt oil, of course cannot compare with the 30wt that you want to buy. The 30wt oil is thinner for more economy and also I think your engine is newer. There is a 5W30 for Delvac 1 but hard to find.

I can't find a virgin oil analysis for Amsoil 5W30 so here is 15W40:

As I know from reading the forums. The Boron is a lubricant like Molybdenum but also acts as a detergent/dispersant. Phosphorous is actually indicative of ZDDP which is some kind of detergent.

If you like second best, you can try BP Visco 5000. In Amsoil's website they compared to it side-by-side. According to Amsoil, it is second to their oil [sly]

This is their rating from http://www.1st-in-synthetics.com/

1) AMSOIL

2) BP Visco 5000

3) Mobil 1

4) Mobil 1 (difference being price)

5) Hi-Tec HTO

6) Shell Helix Ultra

7) Royal Purple

8) Castrol R

9) Castrol SLX

10) Torco

Its in! My mechanic's workshop is an authorised Mobil Service Centre so he got 5L of Delvac MX for $32 for me. The oil works. Comes in a mean looking black bottle. My car uses 3L and I still got 2L left! No leaks so far and my car uses 40 or 50wt oil. It is cheap in my calculations. Mobil XHP Super 20W50 will cost me $32 for 4L. Looking at the math, you will see you get more oil for the same price. FC should improve with a lower wt oil. Will monitor. Engine internals has this brown color. Not the yellow-brown look from a relatively new engine. Will see if it improves. Will see the color of the oil when the next 5k change comes. If it gets dirty by 2k, it would mean the oil is working or the filter not working [laugh] .

You can check out Castrol RS as well. According to Ken4Camry in the TOS forum, it has great cleansing power. Loaded with detergents as well. 30wt oil so if your car can take it, fuel economy will surely improve.

Its the second number in the SAE grade. XXW is the rating for winter. We in SG heck care about it. The number after the XXW is the wt of the oil. So for example, 5W40 is a 40wt oil.

There is this guy in TOS Delphiforums called Ken4Camry. He is also a BITOG forum reader, he already quite expert. For synthetic oil, most 30wt are very thin. Great fuel economy but cannot protect engine. The trick is to look out for the ACEA rating. The best for fuel economy and protecton is ACEA A3 ('02). This means that the oil will not be sheared from a 30wt to a 20wt [nod] . If the oil gets sheared down..... [shakehead]

The cheapest 30wt oil around is RP. RP is quite mysterious, the ones sold in SG are fully syn. But they behave like dino oil [shakehead] with no ACEA A3 rating. The UOA from BITOG not very good so it is best treat it like dino oil and change every 5k.

The best is Castrol SLX. New forumula with ACEA A3. The trick is the viscosity. The new formula has viscosity of 12.something Centistokes. Compared to the old formula of 10 odd Centistokes. It is thicker therefore protect better even though it is 30wt which translates to fuel economy. Very few places sell it. Autobacs sell it for a whopping $92. Ken4Camry got some kangtao from Forklift Enterprises. Less than $80 for the Castrol SLX.

Castrol RS is a dino oil. Good for cleaning too. Lots of detergents but mainly for petrol engines.

If you like to push it down to 20wt, be my guess. Ken4Camry sends his used oil to Dyson analysis in US for UOA. On siah! Like that he can monitor if the oil is protecting the engine or not.

Now you have seen my car ... what do you suggest about the engine oil? No record whatsoever ... what is a good start to try out on a 10 yr old car?
