What will you do?

Scenario:

Imagine you are in a rush.... (e.g. wife's water bag has burst, son fell down the steps, old parent got food poisoning etc.)

...And you are on lane 1 of a local expressway, there is this road hog in front of you merrily doing 90kmh and will continue to stay at the speed till kingdom come. The road in front of the road hog is clear as far as your eye can see (let's say 500m to 800m).

There are some slower traffic on lane 2 and 3.

If its the kind of life and death situation like wife water bag burst all these, I'll try to overtake by the left (faster than waiting for that hogger to give way), if not possible, then I'll high-beam first, followed by sounding the horn repeatly till he no choice but to move away... but in that case me also no choice since its life/death situation...

I am not sure if I am doing the right thing ... I assume I am.

I had such an incident when I was driving my company car, was sending a pregnant lady I come across at the shopping mall. Her husband was not around, only her old frailing mum with her.

I was on Lane 1 speeding at 120km/h to rush her to the hospital. My hazard signal was on, and I switch on my headlights, thinking this would stand out for attention when driving in daylight. Who else would do that?

Here in front of me, there was a car cruising at 80km/h. I flash my high beam and he was not making any move to make way. My understanding as, he didn't know what was going on in the car and the urgency. I had to resort to sounding my horn again and again, still he did not want to bulge a single bit. I was getting impatient, when another car about 50 metres away on lane 2 was travelling at the same speed as the car in front of me. He could have make way first, giving my hinting through the car signals (especially when my hazard lights were on).

A traffic police came alongside me, took a look in my car and sped up towards the car in front. The officer was making way for me. (It's a regret I did not note down the officer's name in that circumstances).

The last thing I know, I look through my rear mirror, they were heading to the side of the expressway. I never knew what happen thereafter.

thumbs up for u and the TP !!! [thumbsup][thumbsup][thumbsup][thumbsup]

some ppl just think they own the road [shakehead][thumbsdown]

Actually what I did was nothing, others offer to help in driving too, just that my company's car was nearer at the exit ... but the TP was doing his job very well ... some officers would use ambulance's excuses - meaning a woman in labour is not considered as an emergency.

Its pple like you and not those from Joo Chiat that makes living in Singapore a pleasure. Nice of you to go out of your way to extend a helping hand to fellow Singaporean. [thumbsup]

I had the same sitution as you...just that it was my sister in law who almost gave birth in my car...ha ha ha ha....

Mine not so bad...was quite late when it happen....drove from Tampines going to the East Shore (then got no Changi Hospital yet). Doing 160kmh on the AYE...hibeam....hazard lights....horning.....everything also on to attract attention.

Then 1 BMW spotted me and chase me...I stop and took out my IC and licence and gave it to the officer and told him "medical emergency". He ask me where I am going and then ask me to follow behind him. We sped all the way to the hospital A&E (he even got the medical pple to stand by for us !!) We sped thru 2 redlights along the way.

After that...he gave me a dressing down for doing 160 (then I know...cos I thinking of getting to the hospital fastest and safely only). Let me off with a warning.

My brother wrote in to TP to thank the officer for his help and after that...we send them a hamper to thank the officer.
