Clandestine Czech-Auto Check-out

Dropped by the Czech Auto outlet down by Leng Kee today at the spur of the moment to check them out and here's the impressions I was left with:

Crowded, as expected, as with any newly-opened place for spending money, shopping centre or otherwise. Neat little showroom with access to the rear where the test vehicles are parked. Model lineup quite like in the days of olde - Fabia 1.4 hatch and sedan, Octavia 1.6 Classic (M), Ambiente (M/A) and 1.8T Elegance (yeah, baby ! [cool] ).

First impression from staff is friendly and rather impressionable - despite the obviously crowded show space, they were still very much on their feet and on the look out - so very unlike SOME nearby dealer.... [:p] While one could attribute this to the operations being new, I hope it continues this way.

Initial reaction to showroom was that it was pretty cramped, but after doing the look-around, with the testcar holding area and all that, it didn't feel as bad. Also, it'll probably do fine after the initial hype-driven crowd dies out a couple of weeks (or maybe months) from now. Really wanted to try out the 1.8T (going for a shade below 120k) but figured I'd try my luck in the near future when the staff are less busy.

Left with the impression that, despite the overall pricing being less competitive than in the days of olde, with the visibly more aggressive approach to the market (plus, the possible and proper capitalisation of the brandname's hightened awareness in the market) the Skoda marque could end up heavily overshadowing its Seat brethren in the middle to long-term. And maybe even end up nicking some deals from neighbouring Audi and Vee-dub. Which, for some people I know, may not be that bad of a thing. Here's to Czech Auto's success.

And, oh, on a side note, the warranty on the Octavia is 2yrs/60, 000kms.

Thanks for the compliment, G, but trust me, nothing beats having a secretary equipped with Spell- and Grammar-check and a good dictionary handy. Saves on the trouble of having to learn anything myself.... [blush][blush]

You got that right, Mondy - $120k.

If anything, I'd say that's one car for someone really not of the mainstream. The lesser known VAG members are already quite offbeat. Now, for someone to consider something somewhat offbeat from the offbeat.....then again, taken from another angle, it's the most affordable of all the VAG-ers available here in S'pore with the same 150hp lump.

Not to mention, the largest boot by far - have you seen just how HUGE that boot is ?

That's just so sad, I tell you - just like, on an indirectly related note, during the CA visit, I overheard this chap who kept openly mentioning to the ppl around him something like, "Ai-yah...but this car (yeah, he meant the Octy but could have easily been applied to so many others, too.....) poor resale value lah....". Seriously, I really felt like tell him off - just why was he there if that was all he was interested in ? [mad]

Wonder if ppl who get Evo's and Rex's worry about resale value......

Trouble is, if I had an Evo, would it (or my license) even last me 5 years ? [pirate]

After factoring in the fuel costs, it will.. [laugh]
