Pulsar Neutral Newbie July 4, 2002 Share July 4, 2002 Last week, to my disbelief, I saw a tow truck towing a W124 E200 from the front, ie. the front wheels up & rear wheels on the ground. I thought E200 is a rear wheel drive & should therefore tow backwards by lifting up the rear? This tow truck was driving into the Mobil Station in Dunearn Rd.. If this is the wrong way to tow then better avoid this workshop! Anyone can confirm this? What sort of damage can occur? ↡ Advertisement
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie July 4, 2002 Share July 4, 2002 Well if the merc is a manual then towing in free gear is probably still ok. If it's an auto then there may be additional wear on the torque convertor/ATF
Yongwd 1st Gear July 4, 2002 Share July 4, 2002 seldom (or I have never) see w124/E200 with manual stick so far. Unless the steering cannot lock into position, else the tow truck should still put the rear wheel of the E200 on rollers. Damage? Permanently on the car differential. Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie July 4, 2002 Share July 4, 2002 "Damage? Permanently on the car differential." Hi! there, Shagmobil, They could have removed the propshaft, before towing. Otherwise, it's a manual tranny. Rgds Paul Yong
Yongwd 1st Gear July 4, 2002 Share July 4, 2002 i reckon they know how to dismantle. even if its a manual tranny, it is still wrong way to tow a RWD vehicle. "Damage? Turbobrick Neutral Newbie July 4, 2002 Share July 4, 2002 Perhaps that's another way to make a quick buck? "oh mdm, your car prop shaft also spoilt leh. That's additional $1200 for repairs"
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie July 4, 2002 Share July 4, 2002 "it is still wrong way to tow a RWD vehicle." Hi! there, Shagmobil, On a manual tranny car, there's no wrong way. Wrong way is only for auto tranny cars. Drive wheel off the ground. One way only for 4-wheel drive cars. All wheels off the ground.
