Dualie Clutched July 26, 2003 Share July 26, 2003 Isn't this just a indication of gear ratio?
Modeldriver Neutral Newbie July 26, 2003 Share July 26, 2003 believe so... should be a factor of that final drive ratio.
Tarmac 3rd Gear July 26, 2003 Author Share July 26, 2003 This is interesting cause I'm not a technical person.. so we can the reverse-engineer to get the drive ratio for the car concerned?
Modeldriver Neutral Newbie July 26, 2003 Share July 26, 2003 Sorry... me neither... maybe some of the other bros here can ?
Tarmac 3rd Gear July 26, 2003 Author Share July 26, 2003 Hi Professional Model Driver with 24 Pts CREDIT.. I posted this thinking it would be a measure of your car available power at low rpms - can mean to indicate a more powerful car from a less performing one & it was nice meeting you.. hearing you talk about ur Ford Galaxy and all. Cheers
Modeldriver Neutral Newbie July 26, 2003 Share July 26, 2003 Hiya... good meeting you too. Dat's what we do at meetups anyway... talk and share. Actually, believe car power at low rpms would be more the butt dyno... as well as how easily U pull forward to overtake when U are cruising at 90km/h. I recall last time my Galaxy would do almost 3000rpm at 90+ km/h - but if U wanna overtake, can step but still no go.. until the gear shifts down. Modeldriver Neutral Newbie July 29, 2003 Share July 29, 2003 aiya.... performance depends on lots of stuff mah... and also depends on your gearing... U sure you didn't leave overdrive off (if you are driving an auto that is).
Madarmour Neutral Newbie July 29, 2003 Share July 29, 2003 My car has no overdrive and 100kph is at 2900rpm! At 2000rpm, really boh lak. Luckily she can go to 7000rpm! She actually only wakes up at 3000rpm!
Modeldriver Neutral Newbie July 29, 2003 Share July 29, 2003 My old Galaxy also like that - 100kph is near 3000rpm that's why mileage stank... $100 full tank can barely go 400km.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie July 30, 2003 Share July 30, 2003 But you must remember how much load the engine has to carry too for the lousy consumption. Actually the cruising rpm depends a lot on the engine design and not an indication of power. An engine with a max torque at lower rpm can have a low rpm final ratio (always mix up the high or low final ratio terminology). This has bearing to overall fuel consumption. Obviously if the max torque is reached at higher rpm, you can't put the final ratio's rpm way below this as the car will suffer from lack of pulling power when you need to accelerate.
