Didn't realized that I have been maintaining this database of mine for a quarter century! 😅 If one day the file is corrupted, I don't think I have the energy to do it all over again.

Oh so likely not bidding then unless they are renewing or expanding their fleet.

They may possibly take up resale cars too so not necessarily new cars.

@Carbon82 thanks for compiling the data, very detailed and impressive.💪

LTA collected $4.63b last year from 24 rounds of bidding exercise, which is $1.1b (32%) higher than in 2023.

Looking at the trend, we are just at the beginning of the climb. The last time when COE premium surged by >30% is in 2015, and for the next 2 years, COE revenue increased to the peak of close to $4.9b (2017).

More GOOD year ahead (for LTA).🤑

It seems like continuing strong demand for phv will keep COE high.  read a comment mentioned that one rental company one shot bid for 60 COEs. The cost just pass down to the consumers song🤣

Neutral Newbie

I went to take a look at Hyundai’s Santa Fe this weekend.

Komoco offered:

$291,999 COE guaranteed, 3 bids, COE rebate $106,000

or

$269,999 COE non guaranteed, 8 bid, COE rebate $82,000

can’t really decide what to do here. On one hand, I feel like the $269,999 is a better deal, but Komoco lowered the rebate to $82,000, which suggests:

a) COE needs to drop >$34,000 for me to get any rebates within next 8 biddings (seems quite unlikely)

b) But I am locked in for next 4 months (8 biddings) at current prices if COE really does drop that much

cant decide what to do - any thoughts?

I will let the numbers do the talking.

I sensed that Komoco maybe trying to keep some buffer in case there is any changes in vehicle taxes (again) in 2 weeks time.

I think from carbon82 posting.. with profits at 40k and 60k, the simple suggestion here is to decide to do.. nothing.

Komoco is doing themselves a disfavor by pricing the hybrid Santa Fe at such high price, where many higher end EVs can be had for less.

If one need a 7 seater with good (SUV like) visibility, Denza D9 (around $280k), Maxus Mifa 7 (around $230k), or on the lower end of the spectrum, the BYD M6 (around $170k).

There's a reason why EV account for one third of new car sold here in 2024, and the number is set to grow further this year. But things might change if the EEAI is reduced or removed by end of the year.
