Heard about this news from an acquaintance with kids in this school and now realized it's viral on social media. Sounds like principal doing PR damage control to all parents.

Bright future ahead. Sec one already so gangsta.

I cannot recall clearly, but there was once I shared the carpark lift with 2 guys, and they were talking about children going to secondary schools. One of them told the other, "your place nearby, depends you want your son to become minister or gangster, see which "ter" he is better at. I held the lift to let them out first, because I LOLed the moment they left the lift. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

During the times of public caning there were still bullies. Bullying is oftentimes not public caning offences.

Anyway if the girl’s suicide from 2 years ago is true

keep in mind that the current incident is in Sec 1 - these kids weren’t in the school 2 years ago

So it’s more an institutional than an individual problem of bullying

Or it could entirely be a coincidence

Probably it's the demographics around the area.

When I was in secondary school.

Students from some schools are infamous for some reason....

A few peers from my school gotten kicked out, and went to infamous school...

One doing very well in construction industry now.

One died when he went motorcycle drag race at Changi Coast Rd 30 yrs ago.

Kids now ride fixie instead and slam into cars.

But social media and emotional bullying now has greater effect on kids than we were 30+yrs ago.

I've experienced worse during my schooling time (many many years ago). But I definitely don't condone bullying and violence.

Woodlands area schools quite gengster type by reputation from those days. Is it still true now?

I can only remember that once some years ago i brought my boy to admiralty park to play and somehow the park at that time had a whole group of loutish teens smoking and riding their e-scooters on the pathways. Had to keep my boy close to me as they were whizzing around without a care in the world.

Nowadays not so simple. The students that got caned, the parents will also come and complain and it'll become finger-pointing. Parents are more protective of kids these days unlike our times. And furthermore there could be mental health or special needs issues coming into the picture, like the supposed "bully" is easily agitated and react like that, can't help himself because people don't understand etc etc. There's no end to it.

Hearsay parents are more protective of kids these days mainly due to majority of the parents are highly educated so they tend to be more outspoken to 'fight' for their rights?
