The jet is on final approach to Rwy33, on the bank of the river.

The helicopter likely from the airbase at the eastern side of the river.

From the video, the bright lights possibly the jet landing lights on the final approach the flight path. Then the heli flew from east to west towards the back or side of the jet.

From the video, the heli was hoovering at the flight path. Not sure why the jet pilots can't see heli lights.

Maybe too dark... and the angle made the helo light blend into the background lights in the area 🤔... I imagine the area has tonnes of buildings and vehicles etc lighting up like any build up areas.

Water reportedly freezing... human would only last a few minutes in it. Doesn't sound good😬

ATC guy probably has the biggest liability if both aircraft had clearance.

If only one aircraft has clearance....

Probably it's the Blackhawk doing a training flight gotten into the jet final approach path.

Have read somewhere that unlike military radars,   civilian airport radars detect transponders,  not the aircraft itself.

So if the blackhawk transponder off/ malfunction,  ATC might not even "see" it 😬... of cos, speculation only.

I watched the video again and the brighter steady light should be the jet landing lights towards the runway. The heli is the dimmer light moving towards the jet.

Saw one report, 4 survivor been saved. Yah... hypothermia start around 15mins in water.

This report says around 36 fahrenheit or 2 deg celcius

From the dialogue, ATC did requested heli to deconflict the approaching jet.

President Trump says crash ‘should have been prevented’

President Donald Trump said the crash between a US Army helicopter and a passenger jet near Washington “should have been prevented.”

“Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane. This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding: “NOT GOOD!!!”

Dunno how it can happen. Weather is good and from the video, the aircraft is so brightly lit. Landing lights were illuminated since there were on the approach to land. Hard to imagine how the helicopter crew didn't see it.

Read that plane in 2 pieces in 7 feet of water.

Chopper is upside down.

Divers sent.

In this case.  No news is actually very bad news😬

Military training, so possibly can be doing an IF flight, aka Instrument Flying. If that's the case, Pilot eyes will be on instrument. But it's unlikely to conduct IFR near such busy airport.

Read some report that say the helicopter was doing VFR. Visibility seems good anyways.

That's very shallow water.

Yah, can't be IFR as ATC ask Heli to look out for the jet.

If doing IFR training then ATC will have given instruction on direction and level.

I suspect they actually meant it's 7 feet under the water. It does look like a rather big river. 🤔

Do you know what brand?

After the all reunion dinners and obligatory relative visits,

I have booked MIL for a nice fight to Korea

and I don't want her phone to go flat

so I will be packing a few power banks in her bags.

I just want to the brand with the biggest bang per buck.

:D

JamesC Brand Power Banks...but don't bring Innocent People together with your Mother In Law.
