the main problem for jap makers is market share. other than their own domestic market, the biggest is US and China. Japan was the 2nd biggest economy in the world, kill of their own cars. restriction on overall size, emission and the young japs now prefer kei cars for the tax benefits. In the US, only Toyota and Honda can compete with the local brands with their SUVs. China no need to say more.

If you look at Subaru, they mostly focus on the US SUV market. Suzuki partly in India, kei cars and 2 wheelers.

Japan market is a dead market for cars and houses. since the great depression, japanese are not spending money (a lot of them lost money and have not recovered, we all know what happend)..hence is a tough domestic market for the car makers. They need to sell overseas market. Last couple of years have not been good for them....everywhere stagnant sales be it due to competition or shrinking market...and China and Tesla come in, hence they are struggling now.

MY has MIT, MII & local for mass mkt.

Got money source from where also can.

Unlike here.

You should see the quality of MIT....

Is the same here why the accords and Camry are not selling well here...i believe both bought in are MIT.

I still think they have earned a sizeable pile over the years internationally, and would proabbly say it is due to investment mismanagement or unprofitable R&D that had caused them to burn everything.

And that's why they pride themselves on Made in Japan, which has been heavily marketed worldwide with decades of PRs and advertising, which strengthens their export markets and overseas buyers.

MIJ being generally of good quality, domestic demand will naturally wane over time simply because the Japs are not massive spenders like US shoppers and prefer to save and preserve their items.

In this market, SMLJ also must be MIJ.

For the price of Accord and Camry, ppl rather buy entry level Audi, BMW and Merc.

Who want these cars here?

Except a few diehard especially Accord.

yes, agree....somehow the last decade for them have impacted their business acumen...even the pple are not as hard working as the previous previous gen.

My son's uni room mate is a Jap....and he me, he is pretty hardworking, but have no intention of buying houses when they were having guys talk...he dosen't want to be tied down with huge liabilities....the concept has really change for them....hence the impact, on demand in thier country...tough

Pre-covid was considering Accord for my first car, and nope'd the F out after googling the price. It's crazy. No one should pay that much for a Honda...it defies common sense.

Ceratos, Sonatas and Mazda 3/6s offer much better value for lesser price.

So the concept has now shifted to younger generation in Jap having lower spending power. Even shopping for cars is too much for their wallets.

Good luck to Lexus!

Civic outgrew in size and crept into Accord territory.

Accord has "lost" its position within Honda product.

Ridiculous...made in T still dare to sell like that.

Even Avante and Mazda are made in Korea and Japan. Even better than South African merc.

Kah Motors really making a mockery of buyers.

Accord premium is about 27%... check out Mazda, NO 30+% no sell....CX 60, it is 50+%.
