MALAYSIA’S automotive maker Proton has appointed car dealer Vincar to distribute its first electric vehicle (EV) in Singapore.

The Proton e.MAS 7 is slated to launch in Singapore early next year, and Vincar said on Monday (Dec 16) that it is planning test drives for the media and public previews to coincide with its release.

It will also set up Proton e.MAS’ flagship showroom in Singapore’s Leng Kee automotive belt and oversee its after-sales services, including warranty coverage.

The Proton e.MAS 7 was launched in Malaysia on Monday, the latest entry into the local market as the country seeks to boost EV and hybrid-EV use, and gain a foothold in the global supply chain.

Proton is majority-owned by Malaysian conglomerate DRB-Hicom, with the remaining 49.9 per cent stake held by Chinese carmaker Zhejiang Geely.

wah.

It's a Geely E5 galaxy rebadged.

Think it will sell well in malaysia given the price there. And it seems well equipped for the price. Just shorter range.

This one if the price is right, can fight atto 3, I welcome competition. hahahha. More choices, more discount for the consumers. 😄

Since it is Geely, the in car OS will be FLYME Auto.

Pertrol in malaysia is a lot cheaper then SGP, because of that, their EV adoption there may not be so strong, i could be wrong.

Perodua is No. 1 in Malaysia.  Perodua sales is equivalent to the combined sales of No.2 to No.4.

Unless Perodua launched sub-RM60k model, EV take-up will not be "strong".

For 2023, Malaysia sold approximately 17k EV.

If EV is a brand, it will rank No.7 in Malaysia.

Technically majority owned by HICOM (50.1%) and Geely with 49.9%

I think it is a great strategic partnership with the platform from Geely but is tuned and tweaked by Proton for local Msia roads and Msian preferences.

This one I don’t want to speculate,  but I m sure all parties involved contributed in their own ways to make a good product for the local market

I have sat in the X50 on a long distance drive in MY  before, it is a very good comfortable compact SUV for the money. i was pretty impressed by its interior quality  and features.  NVH level was very  decent imo. It is a car that feels more expensive than it is.
