Well it was the easiest to identify the hundreds of Tan Ah Kow back then. I used to flip the phone book and was amazed by the number of Tan Ah… and Tan Bee ,Tan Poh

Phone book? What that?

I doubt back then scammers would wait for lover letters in the mail to try get target's money. They had to do everything personally, face-to-face.
