Beginning on January 1, 2025, the Hyundai Motor Company will have a new CEO. Jose Munoz was appointed as the new head of the Korean automaker, succeeding current President and CEO Jaehoon Chang. Chang will be promoted to the Vice Chair of Hyundai Motor Group's automotive division.

Munoz is a Spanish businessman who previously served as the CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America. Prior to that, he was the Chief Performance Officer for Nissan Motor Corporation and the Chairman of Nissan China and North America for over 15 years.

Munoz joined Hyundai in 2019 and helped grow the portfolio with products like the Ioniq 5, and focused on expanding the brand’s footprint nationwide. Under his leadership, Hyundai invested $12.6 billion toward a new “Metaplant” and two new joint battery ventures in Georgia.

Quote

"Jose is a proven leader with vast global experience and is ideally suited to lead Hyundai as competitiveness and business uncertainty increases. As recently outlined at our CEO Investor Day, we have a clear Hyundai Way vision to create a future centered on mobility and energy. Together with José and the rest of our leadership team, the future is very bright for Hyundai."

- Jaehoon Chang, Vice Chair of Hyundai Motor Group – Automotive Division

Munoz will wrap up his tenure as CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America with the debut of the new Ioniq 9 electric SUV at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show. Like the smaller Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 9 was developed under Munoz as part of his plan to expand the automaker’s electric portfolio.

With the evolution of EV and very steep competition from china EV companies, whoever slow in transforming and lack of vision will face the risk of bankruptcy, a visionary CEO is very important to the survivalship of an  auto maker. lets see how the new CEO will perform in a year or two.

Hyundai are not slow on the EV development and model availability.  Should not be a problem.

Is those Japanese company need to worry, till now they remain very conservative.  Look at Toyota,  keep focusing and pusing for hybrid.  While Nissan just announced huge loss for 1st half of the year.

Japan is slow as the Country is pushing Hydrogen.

Toyota is going back to Diesel for its LC series which is not good news for Sg.

Nissan 1st EV was Leaf. But I don’t think they have the money to develop EV.

Their E Power is a stupid technology. Using a ICE to charge the battery and run the motor 😅

It is similar to OG BMW i3 BEx minus external charging capacity.

The biggest flaws/cost savings is small battery. About 1+kWh.

And we will get more parts to wear out, fail, and repair for long-term running.

U will be fast, if u have govt support in tax rebates, procurements, subsidies, 300 billions to throw... non car maker like Huawei, Xiaomi also join in the fun. If PAP is willing to throw 300 billions, we will have our "Sing Your Dream" in SG.

After 5 years, SYD will go bankrupt.  We wasted 3b to construct a dream.

I'm not so sure that Chinese EV makers will survive 5-10 years down the road... almost none of them are profitable. They've over-capacity now domestically but exports can't absorb all their excess, which is extra concerning since even with excess capacity, they can't turn a profit. The Chinese government isn't going to subsidize this industry forever... they'll have to turn a profit eventually, which means probably only 2-3 really  efficient companies with really compelling products will remain behind... the US, European, Japanese & Korean car makers are playing the long game, not making cheap phones... takes a lot to engineer good cars, software not withstanding... China EV makers only look good now cos domestically the standards are low, so anything is acceptable, but not in mature car markets...

This is a very western media view.

For US, it has abundant of oil. With new EPA head, SMLJ COP is given a middle finger.

For EU, it is stuck. It cares about environment but doesn’t want to be threaten.

Currently, CATL & BYD is the world biggest battery supplier.

Gigapress supplier is bought by China. With giant piece of car body, it provides a safer cabin for occupants.

Look at crash test video in Electric Car. Maybach A pillar broke at the point where 2 different metal welded together.

EV from BAIC, GAC, SAIC, Geely and BYD will still be there 10 years from now.

China product circle is calculated in Quarter. Don’t underestimate their ability to catch and surpass.
