VEP is only for foreign vehicles.

For rental cars in MY, need to pay by using TnG card. I believe most car rental Company in MY offers prepaid TnG card for renters to use.

Ok thks, good to know

Erm...I guess you are referring to Register a New Vehicle rather than Renew, because can't see any 'Renew' button.

They said it's to prevent car theft and car cloning and to ensure we pay traffic offences fines... basically they need the license plate to tag to your passport number... taking the license plate as you drive in and tagging it to your passport in their system is best... got ID of both car and driver... they can easily get chassis number if they're doing enforcement by cooperating with Singapore Traffic Police and LTA... this way the system is independent of users... don't need us to register and dependent on whether we bother to register or not... but if they can be so zhai we die already lor...

Not sure why but SG's Autopass Card requires even more information for foreign vehicles entering SG.

Haha... I am pretty sure they are fed up with us not paying our fines.

https://paultan.org/2022/09/30/millions-of-traffic-summons-still-not-paid-77-of-fines-on-singaporean-cars-not-settled-johor-police/

Mr Teo suggested to link the foreign vehicle to the passport of driver on entry to MY, so authorities can identify and tie him or her to any traffic offence committed while in the country. I think there are other security / policy making consideration why so much details are required beyond just passport information.

some of us in this thread had already installed VEP as early as 2019 - hence my (5 year) VEP expires in July this year. u can check ur VEP expiry date via the "tag" dialogue button on My Car/Asset.  so how? I also dunno - cos i cannot find any renewal button or function. Have written in and waiting for a reply ....

Can... some users here are on the TnG RFID... but it doesn't solve the problem of the VEP registration which they'll check on entry... no VEP, no entry according to them but I just wonder if their system even has your registration... cos the ministry of works system likely separate from the immigration department's system... plus enforcement should come from the works department and not immigration... so why should the immigration officer bother to check? And since this is a federal initiative, it must mean that the federal government must provide resources to check and enforce... but why would the immigration side do it unless the Johor MB enforces it? But if we can't go in cos we're waiting for our tags or for them to sort out all the activation/deactivation nonsense, it will be big blow to Johor's economy so the Johor MB is not likely to be so enthusiastic about helping to enforce this measure...

Thanks, i am tempted to get the TNG RFID and just stick on my front bumper...

but like u said, they are 2 different ministry..

I wonder if you've to let it expire before you can click renew? Sometimes the process got no logic one lar... did you write to them?

It's helpful only for paying your tolls without having to wind down your window to tap your card... but it won't help pay the RM20 road charge which the VEP tag will pay for... having 2 RFID tags will confuse the readers...

No leh, officially they say they will write to VEP owner and owner to renew VEP 3 months before expiry.... Yes, I did write in asking for simple renewal advice, quoting my VEP tag number.  Let's see what happens next.
