True, i find many people can only share joy but not trouble. When you need help, no one is there.

Depends on what kind of help is needed.

Some have very strong beliefs that those in monetary trouble caused their own problems.

I remember one time in carouhell I put my fridge for sale. Then one lady offer say that's the best she can do as she is from low income and her fridge spoil. But it was on reserve for the other guy so I told her I will use the earnings from that fridge with a little top up and buy her a new one. Asked her for the measurement and volume and she even send me her social help card as proof which I din request. So I bought one from courts online and sent to her house. She took a photo of the new fridge and sent back to me. Felt good to help.

No, I don't do volunteer or donations generally.

Sincerely respect you for this. I myself would not do this. That being said, I usually won't have any spare fridge to sell. Always use till spoil then buy new one :D

I remember there was one time, I was buying mixed vege rice for dinner. A blind or almost blind man walked up to me and asked me to help him buy mixed vege rice from the same stall. I wasn't in a rush so I thought, 'ok, help him to buy'.

When I was done, he tried to pay me with a small note and some loose change. Maybe I was touched by the situation, but I refused to take his money and told him his meal is on me. So with that, i left the place while he sat down and had his dinner.

Very unlike my usual character because everyone is suspicious to me :D

I am able to afford such small gesture once in a while, but don't come to me everyday la :D

In most cases, it's always about money. In that context, my thinking is always not to bite off more than you can chew. If I can control my spending, why can't you? So if you get into financial problems because of your own lack of discipline, don't expect others to help you.

No wonder people always say, no matter how long and how close a relationship is, if start to say about money, always ended up ugly. 谈钱伤感情.

I bet you heard of this too: 'money is the root of all evil' :D

When I was 15 or 16 years old, I lent $1k to a friend. Of course, I was still ignorant that time. He was living in private landed property in Pasir Panjang. I thought he would repay everything quickly since his family was well to do financially.

Took me a few years of chasing and chasing to finally get everything back. He got the better deal as it was an interest free loan (I was stupid la :D)

That was the lesson that taught me never to lend money to others. Why? Because:

If you lend money to people, don't expect to get it back. If you chase, people turn face, as if it is their god given right to owe you money without paying it back.

If you don't lend, people also turn face.

So might as well don't lend, turn face with those hypocrites and you don't lose your money in the process :D

when I sold my place, I still have to pay  a company to come and collect and dispose  my items (more than a dozen items from furniture to electrical appliances). All the items in great working condition.

A group of migrant workers came, very happy collect into their truck and still collect $300 from me.

I think I have done my part for that community.....😆

Means when a friend start to ask you to lend money, prepare and high chance will lose this friend, no matter how long you know this friend? Cause like you said, lend or don't lend also would turn face.

well, mine was a miscommunication. Was at a lor mee stall ordering for my wife ..

I only had a handphone for Paylah with me. It turned out that the stall didn't have Paylah and needed cash. I told the loh mee stall holder, "I got no money. "The lady behind me wanted to pay for me. I told her I didn't have money physically with me.

I just needed to go to the table to get from the wifey. LOL.

Anyway, it was a nice gesture that the younger generation is indeed helpful for handouts.

Many factors come into play. How long you have known this friend, how much he is borrowing and for what reason, how close you are to this friend, did he only contact you after 20 years to borrow money from you, you know what i mean right? :D

For those who lend money to other, I can only advise that they should only lend if they are prepared to lose that sum of money, and that friend. Those who are soft and think they can keep the friend by lending money will get sucked in and keep lending more and more until they themselves are broke, and still lose that friend. :D

Fair weather friends of course will turn face if they don't manage to borrow any money.

If you see my previous post, the one who msg me on FB to borrow money? Well he didn't contact me again after I rejected him, and it has been another 10 years already :D Who needs this kind of "friend" anyway? :D

Maybe stranger between stranger, might be more helpful or willing to help even when comes to money? But people with relationship to each other might not willing to help or help expecting a return?

I suppose even if someone goes table to table for a hand out , I will not offer any help.. its crazy to see the money been offered going to his cigarette habit or worst, using it to buy toto.. but if u are using it to consume food, like when there is a hurricane and they need rice or clothing, I am sure u wont mind helping the red cross..

remind me of one uncle at a food court, he will show up everyday, asking for money, min $10 if not he make noise. If you offer to pay for his food then good luck, he will go to the most expensive stall and order the most expensive item on the menu [laugh]

Real friends never ask for money unless those treat you like a fool like atm machine and never regard you as a friend🤣

Haiz.......not HDB, that's the problem.

Actually for HDB residents,  they can also arrange bulk disposal service with their town council
