SINGAPORE – By the end of 2024, people shopping for a new Audi car here can buy one online or by visiting a new showroom near Chinatown.

The current showroom in Alexandra Road, operated by agent Premium Automobiles, will stop selling Audi cars when its stock runs out. But the agent will continue to provide after-sales support.

The new Audi Singapore showroom, which will be ready by the end of the year, is on the ground floor of Cross Street Exchange, a mall at the junction of New Bridge Road and Upper Cross Street, The Straits Times has learnt.

The German carmaker’s online platform, which will be ready by November, allows a buyer to complete sales transactions as well as find out about stock availability, finance, insurance and used car trade-in.

The development means that Audi will sell new cars directly to customers in Singapore and not through Premium Automobiles’s Alexandra premises.

Thus, Audi will no longer be represented in an area where the major car brand showrooms are located.

It follows fellow German brand, Porsche, which ended its arrangement in 2023 with its dealer and now sells cars directly to consumers.

I reckon we will see more new members posting questions about their car here if more companies go direct and lose the salespeople …

We need more of Tesla direct selling. Same with housing agents and insurance. All an added drag on cost.

I think the most important question for the buyers is will it be cheaper?

in my whole life as earthling i never see business change the way they do business to make it cheaper for consumer..

Tesla?  Direct sales model and cutting price to sell more EV due to over capacity?

Most times, businesses are forced by competition to reduce pricing and margin and not to benefit consumers.

M&A confirmed is mostly paid by consumers.

I saw mini showroom at Holland V mall. Byd has a Cafe at hill v2.

Makes sense somewhat since premium cars are aspirational here, to move to cbd. Like the xpeng booths etc.

But guess most people buying an audi will want to compare to a merc or BMW at the same time. So I don't think really advantageous to move out of leng kee.

So online sales meaning if a potential client has questions to ask, must deal with cahtbot. 😅

No test drive? Use similator? Anyway the showroom location already hinted clearly to their potential buyers there will be no test drive?

Think the model they adopt will be similar to that done by Tesla. there will be some basic service still at these places but not the hierachy of salesman that await there.

Doesn't work for some but works for others.

They had better pass some savings to consumers otherwise what's the point? audi hasn't been competitive for some time. Used to see the A3/A4s everywhere but now have to squint to find them, with a few now used even for private hire.

Volkswagan group is in trouble. Already talking about closing plants in Germany. So they need to push volumes.

With all the youtube reviews no many questions to ask. I only ask how much? How soon?

Both can be handled by ChatBot....

Audi has a tough time

it may not be cheap enough as VW nor perceived to be as premium as the other two

so the VFM vs desirability factor hasn’t found a balance
