Yes, don't like what?

Things like small size and hot weather has always been there. But I feel like something has changed. Just not sure what exactly.

Cost of living definitely is one factor. But it also seems like people are more divided and not as nice anymore.

cost of living definitely one of the biggest factors. People are more stress up and not as nice as before. Just look at how people drive nowadays. Will kanna horn and flash beam at any moment.

Compared with like~ 20 years ago. Is less crowded too.

Turbocharged

It's become way too crowded.. it's a pressure pot that's worse than say, 20 years ago.

Bumpy, 3rd world standards roads despite the high costs we bear. That's a good reason.

Certainly, I feel some roads are worse now after re-surfacing.

Problem is contractor does the work and the height between the road surface and drains increases ~10mm. One road I regularly travel on has been resurfaced a dozen times in the last 10yrs or so with many new condo, a change to a school etc. and there is now at least one drain cover I have to swerve to avoid so as not to damage my rims.

To the original thread question....... I believe standards are dropping. Whether roads, restaurant service, bank/airline/telco call centres and bot chats, the standards are dropping and those employed to help, follow only a script and with their final answer always "cannot" until you stick on the phone long enough to get a transfer up the ladder.

And with ADs their standard mission statement reply is

”it’s like that one”😂

I can give you an answer to that - as a nation they have to gradually raise the levels of roads whenever and wherever the opportunity arises as part of a long term strategy to keep up with anticipated sea level rises.

The quality, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. But that is also due to working hour restrictions as they can only start work after 930am and must pack up by 430pm. In between need to hack up the road, do whatever it is you need to do, then cover it back up again and open the lane in time for evening rush hour. Where got good quality?

Purposely go off topic here but what I like about Singapore after globetrotting a number of years:

Friends/Family

Food

Safety and security

Affordable healthcare

Connectivity to the rest of the world

Worlds’ best airline and airport

Access to education

An English speaking society

General lack of common corruption

But it seems Singaporeans are still champion grumblers……

Then I have to complain on this also, hahahahahaha. Not sure if anyone agrees with me:

Friends/Family (I agree, but a lot of my friends/family also decided to stay elsewhere besides Singapore, so lesser of them here already)

Food (I agree, but there are more and more of the same kind of food over the years, note the growth of China related food now that it has become monotonous)

Safety and security (really no complaints here)

Affordable healthcare (also really no complaints here, infact I have noticed the efficiency of the general healthcare here has increased a lot)

Connectivity to the rest of the world (all the while yes, but other countries are catching up)

Worlds’ best airline and airport (You mean SQ? No longer anymore, I have better service on Cathay Pacific, StarLux, Qatar, and some others. But really US airlines suckx)

Access to education (Yes, but unlike before, access to good university has been getting tougher over the years, fighting with the whole bunch of foreigners now)

An English speaking society (Yes, but if you go to foodcourts now and doesn;t speak Chinese, you might have problems with some of the stores for customizations)

General lack of common corruption (Yes, but because they are earning so much with so less of responsibilities already)

In other words, Singapore is overall still very good, but I am not so sure that we are moving in a direction that is improving our overall lives. We all got the minimum (which is already very good in a lot of countries), but it took us really big efforts or simply impossible to take on the next leap, with so many rich immigrants coming in to snatch up our resources.

Supercharged

* Groupthink in govt
* Too many scholars and ex-military people in Parliament
* Too hot and humid
* Mass importantation of foreigners who don't bother to integrate with locals
* Singapore being run as an economy and not a country
* Focus on cheap labour and GDP growth
* Fully-priced public services and goods with fake discounts

weather, we cant change

size of Singapore, we cant really change much

For those things we cant change, let it be accept it.

but for the many that we can change for the better, lets do it.

To do it, accountability at the top is a must.

its easy to find a new chief says LKY and many new chiefs we will need as too many JLB

start with the easy one, LTA.  Get a new chief who has the iron to enforce PMD regulations. Go down hard. Get these offenders

Even at the design stage it got wrong. A brand new junction after 2 years of work is not even level. LTA raised the height only on one side of the road to make it a few degrees off horizontal. How c0ck can one get?
