Corolla I like the Japan design more than our SEA corolla altis specially the touring version but JDM/Europe design has slightly shorter wheelbase and no rear aircon.

This model has 6 speed manual transmission in Japan. Pity the pathetic rear legroom though.

While the Toyota, Proton or Perodua factory in Malaysia are cracking ideas on adding more safety features and balancing some luxury features to woo and wow their consumers.

Here we are contrary thinking how to remove specs to try to be tax lower.

Enough said hor 🤭

Simi competitive-ness lai eh? 😁

I'm teaching my children how to differentiate what's jiaobwei and what's not. Very often, I end up with using car policies for example. Cos very easy to understand for them.

Lol, i also frequently use car policies to describe bird language.

But one thing i really wished LTA could do is that they can somehow tweak the policy for us to get more decently specced cars, since we are already paying top dollars anyway.

One of the first thing I'd like to see is for Cat A and B to be classed according to OMV, instead of bhp. It just seems so wrong for a buyer to be paying higer taxes (COE) for a 1.8L B&B car vs someone buying a GLB180... This is also more aligned at how LTA wants to target higher import taxes towards luxury cars. They used OMV as a yardstick to measure.

Our neighbours just across bridge uses segments A B C....

No need to even compare far far. Geographically we are quite similar.

Here we use what Cat A Cat B then come up with what 130bhp and now some EV Cat A is higher than 130bhp. Cannot convince just confuse.

Then end up car makers can tweaked or put older spec engines because to fit into this 130bhp. 1st time I see established merc models (for ie) with uninteresting power output that even my overseas friends got "wowed", didn't know merc got such models one they said.

Really world stage ah. Come come I clap. Sometimes hor, I don't know other countries impressed with us or laugh at us. They should be impressed bah cos when car makers compared the profits here and there, they can make so much here as compared in their home ground, who don't like? Thankful to our zero sum game. Our Mazda 3 for Uber is a testament.

In era of EV, PRC EV is better spec than a lot of Jap equivalent in the same price bracket.

15yr back, SG is the only country in SEA with a 1.5L Lancer Ex. [4A91]

While our north side neighbour has the coveted 4B engine. [1.8, 2.0, 2.4]

[This is before the facelift to 1.6L 4A92]

It's only GR Sport, not the real GR.

Yup. Nowadays car marques like to brand their higher trim (top up abit more) as AMG line (Mercedes), M Sport (BMW), S line (Audi) and GR Sports (Toyota). 😌

///M Sport has been there for the longest time (since BMW E36, I think).

It includes stiffer suspension & thicker ARB.

It is not just trim.

Maybe that's their strategy. Give you crap cars to discourage you from buying and driving.

They are like, you want high spec, just pay more only. Go to PIs, we not stopping you.

Since cars are a luxury item, specs will be the real differentiator when it comes to class.

But then again, rich people also spend their money carefully. E180 can also do the job, don't need to impress others by importing E400. At the end of the day, it works like an equaliser. Reduces car elitism. Or maybe widens? 😄

I thought CAT A and B were classified according to OMV long ago. Back then, CAT A cars came in kosong spec just to stay inside the 20k OMV limit for CAT A. All accessories that could be fitted locally, were fitted locally to cut the OMV to the minimum.

Pay more for less equipment spec and safety features. Uniquely Singapore 🤷🏻‍♂️

LTA should do away the HP limit, they introduced the 1.6CC CAT A + the stupid less than 130HP crap and CAT B for anything higher than 1.6L + above 130HP and for EV we also get crap limit till 110kWh for A and above for B. 🫠

Make it simple for ICE/HEV and slightly increase for EV.

CAT A is 1600CC / 120kWh and below

CAT B is 1601CC / 121 kWh and above

Currently. It is either 1.6L + 130hp or EV < 110kw.

It should be OMV < $20k for non-EV or $30k for EV.

What you mentioned is consumer problem.

No buy no sales

Nope. COE has always been based on engine capacity.

OMV is used to determine ARF.
